Drive Shaft Click sound maybe...? Help.
I swear shit only happens to my vehicle when my wife drives it. She claims there is a clicking sound upon start up coming from the middle rear of the vehicle and that when she put the vehicle in reverse and throttled it she hears a click, click, click then again when she puts the vehicle in drive she hears it again but it goes away after reaching a 10-20mph speed. This morning I rolled down all windows to try and hear what she was talking about and she was right. I am thinking flex joints in drive shaft are failing but no sure. Can someone please chime in to what can be a possible culprit?
Thanks in advance for replies. |
How many miles are on the car? Maybe drive shaft is slipping in the splines?
|
most commonly the front drive shaft is slipping inside the transfer case. At my shop, I replace the front driveshaft with the 1" longer version from Cobra Transmissions. It is $400 cheaper than the original design, and is built to prevent this failure. If you continue to drive with this noise, there is a possibilty that the transfer case will also need to be rebuilt.

115k miles. Thanks for the replies. My darn indie mechanic is on fooking vacation.
Killcrap do you have a source where I can purchase the 1" longer version? |

I've noticed a similar sound under the same situation. Is there way to confirm it's the front drive shaft?
