Drive Shaft Click sound maybe...? Help.

I swear shit only happens to my vehicle when my wife drives it. She claims there is a clicking sound upon start up coming from the middle rear of the vehicle and that when she put the vehicle in reverse and throttled it she hears a click, click, click then again when she puts the vehicle in drive she hears it again but it goes away after reaching a 10-20mph speed. This morning I rolled down all windows to try and hear what she was talking about and she was right. I am thinking flex joints in drive shaft are failing but no sure. Can someone please chime in to what can be a possible culprit?

Thanks in advance for replies.

How many miles are on the car? Maybe drive shaft is slipping in the splines?

most commonly the front drive shaft is slipping inside the transfer case. At my shop, I replace the front driveshaft with the 1" longer version from Cobra Transmissions. It is $400 cheaper than the original design, and is built to prevent this failure. If you continue to drive with this noise, there is a possibilty that the transfer case will also need to be rebuilt.

You don't recommend ordering this one isntead: BMW X5 - NV125 Drive Line Shaft [NV125DLS-EXT] - $569.99 : Automatic, Standard Transmission and Transfer Case Rebuild Kits, Cobra Transmission Parts 1-800-293-1848

it is the 1" longer you mentioned previously.

Thanks for your help. Anything else you recommend me replacing while doing this? i.e.. Flex disks?

I've noticed a similar sound under the same situation. Is there way to confirm it's the front drive shaft?
