Not to hijack but, in a similar fashion my old 2003 3.0 X5 w/ 176k, was the wife's, is going to my 16 yr old daughter in January. I have my 4.8is and my wife now has a 2006 X3 3.0 (///M pkg) so, my girl gets her license in January and it's hers!

Whaaaat!!! okay now im definitely going to marry a girl with an X5, since its going to be easier to find one now.

I would be a little worried there POPS, the 3.0 sounds weak, is slow at startoffs but its got some power to it, and the handling is stiff and its a huge car for a 16yr old girl to learn on. But seeing you got lucky with the imola red color than you probably got lucky with a good daughter. Good Luck.

Luckily for my daughter we have a very well equipped home garage. I have just about every tool a good Indy would have except a lift and only have a basic scan tool. But I've also got a friend with a very good German car specialty shop less than 1/4 mile away, for when I get in over my head. So in a month or two, my daughter's X5 will be fully sorted.

yea times have changed and the kids out there including me are very fortunate most of the time. That's good that you have the tools, stay on the forum to find any help you will need. Many good people here will give you a hand with write ups and stuff.

Congrats to you and your daughter on the X, hopefully she learns to appreciate it. I still dont trust my girl friend with driving my X after she rear ended her Hyundai.

I live 2 hours away from westchester, up in Massachusetts. so if your going to need parts or anything, contact me, might be able to help out.

Thanks for the offer and the kind words.

I've already looked up several walk throughs for some of the repairs the X5 needs. But while we have not owned a BMW for a while, I have owned six previous models, which I did a lot of work on. I had a very successful 3 series race car that I built myself, and campaigned for about ten years, so I am certainly not affraid to turn a wrench. But the X5 is far more complex than anything I've worked on to date, so it will certainly require me to study up.

wow, nice! I want to get into building a 3 series race car someday.
And its not that far advance as today BMW's coming off the production line.
As long as you stay updated on the forums it should help when a problem arises you will have an idea most of the time.

Off-Topic: my daughter will have her license in March. She'll have the blue 02 3.0i

This is funny coz I am hanging on to my 03 4.4i (with 106k miles now) for my son who will turn 16 in a year and a half. My wife has declared this an insane plan but by the looks of it I am not too far out of the ballpark there..... Untill then it is my commuter, we got an e70 and hanging on the to the 4.8iS seems like bit much, I commute only 3 or 4k miles a year.

We have owned the 4.4i for more than 6 years and most of the known issues already fixed but I still have to do the chain guides and the valve covers.

The alternative would be to get a six speed X3 but that would a whole new search! I just finished hunting down an e70 with all possible options. :D.

Anyway, hope all those cars work out for your kids!

wow I'm like the youngster here, almost 19 and a proud owner of an X.
pretty soon there's going to be a new generation of X owners. lets just hope that all those kids, your daughters and sons learn to respect the X and drive correctly. ;)

Nice!!

Yeah, it's a safe heavy vehicle and she learned how to drive in it. The truck has some minor issue to address but, it's still in great shape.

The 3.0 is sluggish but, it will get her to where she needs to go safely!

Skyline,

Did you compete with me in BMW CCA Club Racing? Here's a shot of my car at Mid Ohio. I campaigned in C-mod. Sold the car in 2009.
Anyway, maybe we've met?
