Coding, what not to forget?
Will do the 1 click 3 blink turning light (if possible) but what else to do when I am already in there?
Thanks  |
fogs on w/ hi beams
hi beams on with low beams disable corner/parking lamp disable seat belt chime - no flaming please:D double flash hazards window/roof close with remote mirror fold with remote (not sure if this is available) if you have aftermarket bulbs you can turn off cold monitoring which will increase bulb life and eliminate some warnings. good luck!! you will be super happy :thumbup: |
synchronize car clock to GPS time beacon.
maybe door autolock at certain speed... maybe not... maybe roof close with rain sensor - even though sounds redundant... and really useless... correct speedo to ACTUAL speed instead of optimistic reading... |
what is confirmed to be available? I too am getting coding soon.
|
mirror fold cannot be done.
door autolock at certain speed can be done. rain sensor to close roof is really stupid and shouldn't be done. (not tested on E53 though) Highbeams with low beams I want to try too. xenon + halogen highbeams on together? (need to test) Everything else mentioned in the above posts can be coded. |
what lines are the double flash hazards and the seatbelt gong? do you know what the key in the ignition gong line is as well?
I am assuming you are using NCS, if youre using one of those fancy english language versions, forget it, I will dig out my german to english dictionary. |

Is there a setting to automatically turn ON the rear defrost if temperature is close to or below the freezing point?
My E46 was turning ON the defrost every winter morning when I started the car in the morning, but not my X5. It was a nice feature to have. |
Cold monitoring off on the AEs. Hook it up.
|
interesting feature... if we had the FSW file from your E46, we could find if E53 has that line in its coding - the programming is similar but the german abbreviations are a nightmare to decipher...
|
Term, do you have the line for the AE cold monitoring off thing. Also the licence plate bulbs. Thanks.

when you put Nav in ECE mode, you will lose the warning screen, the emergency line in the menu, and gain yards instead of feet...
the rain sensing roof is working in E53, i kept it active... HHS line - can't find in E53 for rear defroster feature... maybe it is abbreviated in E46 and spelled out in E53 |
And the 1 click 3 blink turn signal, can this be done?
|
i will look once i am on my home comp... i did not do it on mine...
|
Check for the Angel Eye cold monitoring as well. Thanks man, you are doing us all a service.
|
i did not find the normal line - CYCL_TI_BLK... maybe it is listed differently... i'll have to look it up... i had a car that did that and i did not like it for some reason...

TerminatorX5 do you think you could give the code I have to change in NCSExpert to disable the cornering lights on my 2001 X5

and i will float your your key on the river!!!! hahaha
on the line that i posted for high beams at the same time as bi-xenon - the line reads PWM - pulse width modulation... i am not so sure if that line will do what i said it will do - but there is no other lines that i could find for the bi-zenon and the high beams... might be part of the cold/hot monitoring - so, cross check that entry, if possible... i think, i found some lines that might allow for the AE to be on with the engine running but i need to get my laptop in order before testing my theory - my kid got hold of the computer again and played some online games... lol... |

Just adding to the list of what the guys in NJ coding meet were able to do. I know a guy actually in SI that turns out has coded over 4000 cars. So I might head out there soon to get this all taken care of. I'll let you know how it goes once done. I just want to make sure I have a full list of stuff to do.

Slick, i found an E90 in Manhattan for my wife, 2011, under 5K miles... is it safe to get the car from that area? or should I steer away? the deal is backed by BMWFS... how can I tell if the car was flooded but then cleaned up?... obviously, if it si dripping water, i would know.. but, if it was cleaned up?...
|
Quote:
Put the car on a steep hill, like a parking garage ramp, and see if water drains out. If they clean the car, they dry the car. But they can't dry all the nooks inside the frame. Also, if its warm out, closed windows, you should get heavy condensation inside on the glass. Also, get under the front seats, and feel the bottom cushion. If you feel salt crystals on the metal, you know what happened. |
[#18 :nanana:]
Relock 2 min. after unlocking [with out door opening] ! It's set to "NOT ACTIVE" from the factory ! I had it coded on one of my X and do like it 100% |
thanks for the tips - i will keep in mind, if i go for it... it is just a very nice specimen of the E90... i could not find anything like that in a while...
i am worried about the auto relock - we had an E34, that had an alarm, with auto relock, windows roll up, remote engine start - was installed at the Guaranteed Alarm in Brooklyn, right on the Coney Island Ave, at the exit by the belt parkway... (or, park beltway?) We had it in for state inspection, and i told the guys not to leave the keys inside, as it will lock up itself... i get a phone call, come and open your car... turns out, the Einsteins removed the keychain remote control (!!!) off the chain, left the control inside, and kept the key outside. of course, the car double locked itself, rolled the windows up and that was all she wrote... when i came to the shop, they were like, we kept the keys outside, like you told us... MORONS!!!! whose signature on this forum has the line that there is always a fool that can outdo the foolproof design... so, i am very cautious about the auto relock... |
Yea I fear the auto locking stuff. Not even going to consider this one. I saw a guy tinting an E70, and the same shit happened. Locked, windows rolled up, sunroof closed. All I could hear was Pizdets Blad.
Belt Parkway. Or as I like to call it, Parking on the Belt. Cause you know that shit is never moving. And are you talking about Lenny's Auto. Yea that place got raped by Sandy. That's where I do my alignments. He had a ton of water in there. Lost all electrical equipment. |
half of my family lives on the H, and they recommended going there.. not really sure what his name was, but you know how it works - at the time, i stopped by, hey Lenny (or whatever name my cousin told me at the time), I am from Andrey, from the caviar shop... yeah, i need this crap installed... lol... you always go for the owner, yeah, i am friends with the owner, yeah, ask him, he knows me, we drink/fish/sleep/walk together, yeah... hahaha... i was at the staten island a weekend before the Sandy, and my friend was getting phone calls (on his vacation time!!), hey, can you send someone to fix that and this... like they can't call the office... no, they have to talk to the owner... lol...

on the x5's the remote is on the key head and so far there is no way for the key to be left inside [when using the same key: locked then unlocked than auto relocked] unless that same key have been tossed by the open window on purpose ... Note: btw I had notice there is only single lock and the alarm is NOT set when auto relocked after the 2min. .... |
Hmm. On the 46, the auto relock would just relock the door if you hit unlock on the remote then didn't open the door for 2 minutes. I haven't experienced this yet on the x but how different could it be? There would be no way to lock yourself out.
|
Tried this last night. Windows down. Locked then unlocked. Teo minutes later... Doors relocked. No windows
|
anyone have the code line for windows up. Thanks in advance.
I am also presuming this is all in the gm3 module. Correct? |
windows up is in the CAS
KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_FB change to aktiv |
Thanks Patrick
I found the same line in the gm3, I think. Does the one file that gets written, the trc file, have every module? Or do I have to write and save every module? What is gm3 for then? |
I actually forget if the E53's windows up code is in the Gm3 module. I haven't really coded my E53 for a long long time. If you are able to find the same line in the GM3 module, try that instead and see if it works.
|
So when I read from car, do I read from GM3? I guess that should be the first question.
|
you mean like when you press f1, f3 then chose a module? i always just went with the first one. I believe it was EWS?
|
Quote:
|
in the list of modules, you said you picked GM3 and you were able to find that line of code i posted right? change it to aktiv, and save the file as .man. press F5, and select coapiReadSgGetFSWPSW and press ok. Then press F2 and select SG_CODIEREN and press ok followed by F3.
test the windows after to see if the windows go up with key. It should work  |
yes gt1, its in the gm3. that was the correct line, but not the correct module. I dont believe the x53 has a codeable CAS.
|
Quote:
|
Slick, please try to remember the steps. I am going to try the same thing tomorrow.
|
Make a blank FSW_PSW.MAN file first in the work directory. Not having this was screwing my system up. it's the same name as the .Trc file but instead of .Trc you make it .man.
Open inpa first, if it works so will NCS. Close inpa, open NCS. Load profile, I use Revlovs Press F1, right away press F3, choose e53, choose ews, press ok. Your vin should come up. Well not full vin, only last 8 matter, the 8th of the last 8 is a check digit, so ignore that one. Then press back. Press process ecu, choose Gm3, ok, ok. Then you need to change jobs and select codierdaten_lessen, this makes NCS read your module. Press execute job. When done it will say coding finished, and you have FSW_PSW.TRC file with all your code. That's where I'm up to so far. I only have about three hours of free time invested in this. So let me know where you get up to. |
Quote:
|
Done. Thanks guys. Great help. I used revtors though. I guess since my car is manufactured before 2002 the expert profile with coapiReadSgGetFSWPSW didn't work for me.
|
My shit keeps giving me an error when reading. I have a massive sensation I have a shitty cable. Anyone want to try it if it works? Maybe I can borrow a known good one?
Either way. I give up for now. I am going to post on bmwcoding and see what people suggest. But based on research, either my cable is bad, or I need to format my whole shit and start over. |
what is the error. You shouldnt be able to get as far as you have with a bad cable.
|
That is what I thought. Hold on. I emailed screenshots to myself.
|
I wonder if this is one will allow me to still operate the windows after the ignition is off:
FH_ABSSCHALTKRITERIUM is set to us - usa in my case. What should I change it to? |
Quote:
without looking it up, I believe you change it to ECE, which lets the windows work for a few minutes until you open the door. |

I get
Error in CABD! Look at CABI.ERR and ERROR.LOG COAPI-2020: no answer from ECU IFH-0009: NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLUNIT On the NCS screen it stops on, Get coded EWS Coding is faulty Jobname = codierdaten_lesen Ews.c81.a_ews.ipo.c_ews3.prg This is only when I chose ews to read the vin. If I choose komb, or kombi to read vin, I can process the ecu for gm3 no problem. But it is clearly the wrong path because the Trc file is 5kb and does not have any of the options I need. Even when I get the error above, it still writes a proper Trc file. I am just not sure if it's safe to proceed coding the edited man file. |
Yes I can use inpa no problem. I read all codes. I get an occupancy mat error all the time. That was present. Inpa works. NCS works for everything else but not to process ecu when vin is read from ews. Strange, I know. I'm really at a loss right now.
I also took apart the head, and I have the green board, and pins 8-7 are bridged. |
I am using and ads cable since I have one under the hood but I checked the usb/obd and 7-8 are bridged. It might not be the cable. Did you try a different profile? Just a thought...

you have to switch back to revtor or fisters profile to write the manipulations back to the unit.
Its the second error you sent me thats the bigger issue.... |
I know. I keep searching that no response from control unit error, and all my search points to bad cable. Ignition on, I can hear the water pump running in garage, and car on trickle charger. I don't know what else to do. Oh it reads and writes all the files in the damn work folder, then stops at that error.

ok, damnit, Josh put me on the right track. I got it. I can't choose ews when selecting to read vin. I have to use KMB. Then I get the individual module. I think this is going to work. Thanks guys.

Update. It worked. I choose KMB for the vin readout. Then my file completes without error. I edited the gm3 and was able to upload it back.
My windows now roll back up. Yay. Yay. Woooohoooo. I guess I now have to edit the lcm for the lights stuff. Thank you all. Especially Josh for the email support. Had he not told me my file was for the whole car, I wouldn't have figured it out. |

We probably have to get the list grouped by module. Most likely the lights options are in LCM but what about the others. I guess I can print each module options and look in each file for a specific option.
|
Yup, if you notice, I put gm3 for the windows.
I will do the LCM tonight, I hope. The other stuff, we will have to fish for, seems like getting help in this area of e53 is tough. Very few people know it and are willing to help. Fewer people that are willing to help, but don't remember it all. So it looks like we will have to at it with the bunch of people in this thread. But that list above is is what is confirmed to work. |

you just have to sort them out. Remember, there are very few modules that can actually be changed. You can read them, but there is nothing to really changed. Lights are LSZ Chassis stuff, locks, etc.... is GM3 I think there is some stuff in IHKA you can tweak maybe Kombi ( I want to change my SIL). but most of the rest is best left alone. Dont screw with the dsc, abs, DME, etc.... |

I wonder if you came across an options for the DME, EWS that will tweak the sw to leave the tranny in 2nd when coming to a complete stop... would that be an option? maybe? Slick, i sent the file twice to the email you gave me, it bounced both times - did you actually get it?
Also, you are doing just one module at a time - I did ALL modules at once (maybe I should not have!!) and I did not look at which line of programming was where - I just updated the line, and then wrote it in... I could not get windows to continue to roll when doors open, i could not get them roll up with the keyfob... but the time sync with GPS worked fine... Also, it seems that some options need to change simultaneously with other parameters to take effect - door autolock did not take root until i updated the individual keys' programming... |

So I just finished trying everything above. My thoughts;
The gongs I returned back to stock. They can be removed with above codes, but I kind of like it factory reminders. Double flash was nuts. Very fast double flash. Looks cool from outside, sounds nuts inside. Cold monitoring fixed my strobe lights all around. I bet I can put the cheapest shit in my car now, and it will last. Cold monitoring has ruined one of my ice vxx lights. The driver side had CM active. Those rings look a faded color now. Gotta call iUmnotza and get warrantee on this. Otherwise, I think I coded pretty much everything with the basics. I want to see if I can add the SA options from the E65 and try to get the mirrors to fold on lock. |
Terminator, can you please try to see if you find anyhthing in the coding file for the REST feature. It seems like you know quite a few languages including german and you might be able to figure out the acronyms. I wonder what are the choices for it. I am looking for the REST to turn on when the engine turns off...
I tried BMW Coding tool translator but I couldn't find it. |
I found that one guy was able to enable this feature on a 2011 335 using "REST_TASTE_VERBAUT" but I couldn't find it in our file.
This might be a feature that comes with the module and REST or MAX/AC... REST (Residual Heat) feature coded back on a 2011 335i!!! - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum - E90Post.com |
I am 98% sure thats not in our module. Remember, the E90 has a completely different electrical system from the older 38/39/46/53 etc... cars that share similar bases.
|
FM, can you elaborateon what you are looking for?
In both of my E53s, the 2002 and 2006 models, I have an A/C button that says "MAX". When engine is running (and other criteria are met), when I push "MAX", I get the full speed fan, with the temp settings and the air circulation set for the maximum performance. Once the engine is off (and other criteria is met), and I have the car key in my hands, if I press the "MAX" button, I get the residual heater turned on, long enough for a quick errand to a convenience store to pick up a doughnut or whatnot... The "MAX" button operates identical to what the "REST" button used to do in my E39 - it just bears different name... Do you wish the "rest" function to activate automatically upon removal of the key from the ignition? |
Slick,
Have you figured out the cold monitoring for the tail lights yet? |
cold monitoring is pretty easy, I dont have the exact line in front of me, but its kaltuberring XXX for the correct lights. I just turned all of mine off. I spent 15 years driving without knowing if a light was out. you may have to restart your car to get it to work, It seems to have solved my flicker I had last night with my new angel eyes.

You still have to physically initiate the program...it doesn't start-up on it's own. But once started...the program will turn off after a specified time...or turn off when the ignition is turned past either position 1 or 2...and what ever IHKA setting you had prior...the system reverts back to that setting. The MAX button will perform the REST(residual heat) program when:
(this page below is from my old e38 or e39 owners manual...but the MAX/REST programming should work the same in the e53 since it is the same generational sibling as those two models) http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...structions.jpg |

Awesome, the second part is what I want to try, pre-facelift so I dont have flickering while running, but strobing at startup from cold monitoring.
Thanks Slick, if you were closer to me I'd let you pop my tails out and put them on your car to test the LED option! |
Thanks for the explanation guys. I didn't know that the REST was still there on the modules with MAX button. Now, to get this MAX function on my module do I need to enable/code something?
Quote:
I would like this for two reasons: I am speculating the idea that the rear of the engine is building up heat after the engine is turned off for short period of time and it causes the rubber o-rings and probably the valley pan to leak over time. I would think this residual heat being released would help. Here is the actual thread on this issue: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ring-life.html Also in winter time is always nice to have that on by default. |
I understand your question now. I did not see anything in the factory programming that would suggest that this function is available.
The function is turned on by a telegram sent over the iBus from the IHKA and that activates the residual REST operation. Such a telegram can be sent by an external aftermarket (self-made) module that connects to the car's iBus. For example, the StealthOne module can "press" the "ACCEPT" button on your behalf, thus eliminating the annoying screen from Nav display. I do not have a box like that, nor can I make one - but there are people out there who have accomplished similar tasks - check the iBus Hackers on the yahoo groups - the folks there use Melexis IC chip (or Ressler iBus adapter) to connect to the iBus and use a computer (old laptop), that listens to the traffic on the iBus, and sends out pre-programmed commands if specified criteria is met.... For example, you can have your laptop listen for the ignition turning off, and then, in a couple of seconds the laptop would send "REST" command, thus activating your function... I am not aware of any other way of achieving your desired results... :( |
The only thing I can find that deals with coolant and climate control stuff is.

you have the same car type as I do - you do not need to do any programming in the NCS. As you drive, press the button MAX/REST and the A/C should kick into the overdrive. Once you park (after a relatively long drive), turn the car off, pull the key out, press the key MAX/REST, and the A/C should kick in with the warm air coming into the cabin. Test it and let us know if it worked as described. |

The rest feature will not work in the summer, basically when you actually need it most, above 59 F. My suggestion is to tap into the aux pump wiring, and make a circuit to power it on for a set amount of time. I think civdiv should be contacted regarding this. |
FM, these settings are probably in IHKA but they will not give you the automated REST function. you have to be very careful with these settings - I changed one of them once (by accident), and the pseudoREST kicked in and was blowing for a long time while car totally cold (a few hours) until i removed the A/C fuse. I was worried about the battery dying, but it was ok...

here are a couple of fsw dumps from my car from tonight. GM3, LCM, IHKA, KMBI and TCU. There is an interesting line in the TCU for bluetooth active. I wonder if I could have used this to activate the bluetooth on my 04 spec TCU that had a PK but I couldnt get to connect. I still have it, but I dont want to pull everything out to try it.
Anyone with one of those 04 spec bubble TCU's that wants to try it? |
So is this the messed up ones?
|
no I dont think they are messed up. I just think it was overcast today and my auto lights were on. I found a few posts from 38/39/53 folks talking about this time of year and the RLS being agressive.
I'm never in the car during the day since I'm always at work. had to run an errand at work so it was strange. I did turn off the tagfarlict line, but looking at what I woudl have changed last night, I didnt touch anything that should cause a problem. Now I want to see if there is a way to keep the true sidemarkers (on the side of the car) on with the lights, and flash with the blinkers. I love the no turn signal/parking light look - good call, but dont like my car having zero side visibilty. |
Yea I'm actually with you 100%. Let me know if any line works out. I'll try later as well.

It would be helpful if we knew what the code for those lights were. Like fl/al/Sv/. Etc

Qsilver, very interesting information. My IHKA has only the REST and I tried today on my way home the there is no MAX function on it.
I tried a while back to use the main-board from a module that had the MAX function but the screen was broken. Unfortunately I couldn't make one new module. My screen board wasn't compatible with the main board from the spare module. I had no idea there was even a solar sensor... Very complex engineering in these cars. So, without the solar sensor I guess I can get the MAX function but the IHKA will not compensate for solar radiation. |

your car is actually equipped with IHKR, not IHKA - i am still checking what the difference is between the two... IHKR was fitted from 1999-09 to 2000-09
|
Are you sure it's IHKR? It looks like the IHKR refers to the manual climate control.
|
your car's order sheet says automatic, which is IHKA... the other docs say IHKR... so, i am trying to figure out which version you have (which i suspect 99%, it should be IHKA)... there is an A11 module that corresponds to IHKA for your production date, but for some reason, the schematics are not coming up - i probably need to clear the computer's cache...

Hey T, is it possible to turn off lights based on what position the light switch is on?
|
Quote:
I turn my lights on manual, just because I want to decide when what is on. So my lights in position 1, turn on only the Angel Eyes. If I hit the fog light button, the fogs turn on. If I put in position 2, my HIDs turn on. |
Man...if you fall asleep...you miss a lot. :D
If the build sheet lists : S534A KLIMAAUTOMATIK Automatic air conditioning ... then that is the IHKA control panel. The IHKR is the manual control panel that has the 3 round dials that use bowden cables to operate the air flaps & temp control, etc. And with an early build date...your IHKA control panel would have the REST button and not the MAX button. So, if you wanted to upgrade to the an IHKA w/MAX button...you would have to find a new or used one, then code your car so that it can run the extra programming (max cooling) feature. Your vehicle won't automatically perform the MAX function without reprogramming. Below is an illustrated diagram of the manual IHKR control unit: |
Short answer - NO.
Long answer - YES... the light switch S8 (like many other switches in the car) sends a signal to the LCM based on the switch position. There is a small circuitry inside the switch that allows the LCM to monitor the switch for the position and based on that, turn on/off specific light. The lights in the car can be turned on/off by sending specific commands on the iBus, and you might create a special effects light show (first 30 seconds of this video BMW M7 - YouTube). Thus, it is possible to build a box that will intercept the signals coming from the light switch S8 and tell the LCM to behave in your specifically desired way. good example is a little box that I have for the TV module, that blocks the speed signal coming to the TV module and tells the module the speed is zero, hence allowing the TV to stay on while the car is in motion. So, the answer is - do you want to build such a box? |
Quote:
"Auto" - all light function normally as they would from the factory. "off" - Same function as factory "Park lights" - only angel eyes on. All rear lights off as well. "last position" - same as factory Essentially it would just be the angel eyes on when the light switch is switched to park lamps. I can't/don't want to disable the markers when the headlamps are on because the cops around here aren't the friendliest bunch. |
so you want angel eyes as DRL then?

this is in reference to the AC question...
The A11 module from 09-1999 to 09-2000 has 5 connectors and the newer A11 modules have 4 connectors. Extra connector X18153 (6-pin) from the older module has only one pin engaged, and that is the pin that seems to be the INDEPENDENT PARK HEATING CHECK VALVE. That pin has been moved to another connector (X610) on the newer modules, and the whole connector X18153 was eliminated - but the point is, there are same functions between the both, older and newer A11 modules... I can not view SVG files at work, so I can't trace that pin on the schematics until I get home, to see if that signal goes to same locations on both, older and newer cars... |
this one is reference to the lights operation - this write up refers to E38/E39 but still applies to E53:
Light check control module (LCM) The light check control module combines the functions of the following control units previously installed individually in the E38:
Functions, general Diagnosis as well as communication with other control units takes place via the I-bus (E38/E39 high) or K-bus (E39 basic). In the event of the control unit or one of its peripheral elements failing, an emergency operation facility maintains following functions.
If a trailer coupling is installed in the vehicle, the lamp circuits of the pulling vehicle with a trailer module must be disconnected from those of the trailer. The LCM is connected to the trailer module via a data link. A diagnosis program is provided for all 3 function spheres of the LCM. Light functions The light check control module controls and monitors
With the exception of the brake light switch, all switches scanned by the LCM are designed such that they switch to ground. The following switches are scanned by the LCM:
Light switch When the light switch is in rest position, all contacts are closed (R < 1 Ohm) and the corresponding contact is opened (R> 1 MOhm) in the low beam or high beam position. The lighting for the light switch is controlled separately by the LCM. It lights at full brightness when the light switch is in the OFF position. It is dimmed to the same extent as the instrument and locator lights when they are switched on. Brake light switch The brake light switch is permanently monitored by the LCM when terminal R is activated. It is designed as a Hall sensor and features 3 lines (terminal R, terminal 31, signal line). The test switch is not necessary. Hazard warning switch The indicator lamp for the hazard warning function is located in the hazard warning switch. It also serves as a locator light. Dimmer potentiometer The dimmed instrument, locator and function lights (terminal 58g) is activated when the light switch is in the parking light or low beam light position. The voltage generated at terminal 58g is dependent on the position of the dimmer potentiometer. Activation of indicator lamps in the instrument cluster The indicator lamps for left turn signal indicator, right turn signal indicator, rear fog light, fog light and high beam located in the instrument cluster are activated via the I-Bus/K-bus. Lights The lamps of the vehicle lighting system are monitored both when switched off and switched on (cold and warm monitoring). The lamps are activated by means of transistors. Due to the fact that they are now short-circuit-protected, the standard lamp fuses are no longer necessary. The lamps can also be activated via the diagnosis function. The country-specific functions of the lamp circuits are coded. Check control functions The task of the check control is to inform the driver. It provides him with information via the text display in the display unit of the IKE (E38/E39 high) or via the LC display field for check control messages in the instrument cluster (E39 basic) regarding failure of important functions as well as notes and warnings. Common features of both wiring systems The check control function in the LCM monitors its own sensors and detects when a message is necessary for these sensors. Consequently it sends a data telegram to the IKE/instrument cluster with the request to display the message text in the text display or the message in the display field for check control messages. The following sensors are monitored:
An ignition lock and belt buckle contact is included in the US version. In addition, it also receives LCM-internal messages concerning defective lamps. Added to this, it evaluates messages from other control units which it receives via the I-bus and sends the corresponding request to the IKE/instrument cluster. Vehicle system E38/E39 high The messages are, in part, accompanied by an acoustic annunciator. The gong in conjunction with check control messages is activated via the I-bus (no direct line link between the LCM and gong). It should be noted that depending on the importance and number of messages previously occurred an acoustic signal does not sound every time and also not for the same message. The following check control text messages are possible in the E38/E39 high system: Check engine oil level The level is determined by a thermal oil level sensor. It supplies a square-wave signal and receives voltage as of terminal 15. Check brake fluid Top up wash water Check coolant level Engine emergency program If problems are detected at the throttle or at the pedal sensor, the EML assumes emergency mode, accompanied by a distinct reduction in engine performance. In this case, the check control receives a signal via a line, with which the LCM is connected directly to the EML, and outputs this message. Preheating/injection systemg The LCM is connected via a line to the DDE control unit, from which it receives a signal for the messages preheating and injection system. EEPROM LCM appears when the LCM is not coded. Ignition key in lock (US only) A switch connected to ground is located in the ignition lock. The display is shown when the driver's door is open until the ignition key is removed, however, only at "ignition OFF". Buckle belt (US, Gulf States only) The message appears when the seat belt has not been buckled (closed). The belt contact switch which switches to ground is connected directly to the LCM. Information which the check control receives from the IKE/instrument cluster: The check control receives information from the IKE for the following messages. Troubleshooting should be continued in the IKE if incorrect messages are received. Transmission emergency program If there is a defect in a transmission control unit to the IKE, the LCM is informed via the I-bus. Release parking brake This message appears on exceeding a speed of 5 km/h with the parking brake applied. Check brake pad Coolant temperature Stop! Engine oil pressure Information which the check control receives from the ZKE: The check control receives information from the ZKE and processes it for the following messages. Troubleshooting should be continued in the ZKE if incorrect messages are received. Door open This message is output as of a speed of 5 km/h if the driver's, passenger's or rear door is open. Luggage compartment (boot/trunk) open This message appears on exceeding a speed of 5 km/h with the boot/trunk lid open. Light on? This indication appears in ignition lock position "0" when the driver's door is opened with the parking light switched on. The LCM evaluates all light messages internally. E39 basic system On vehicles with the basic system, information is indicated not in the form of text messages but rather by warning lamps and symbols in the LC display field for check control messages in the instrument cluster. The check control also requests indication for following lamps: General brake warning lamp This switch is activated by the LCM when its brake fluid level switch informs it that the brake fluid level is too low. Wash water This lamp lights when the switch connected to the LCM signals that the wash water level is too low. Oil level indicator lamp The oil level is determined by a thermal oil level sensor. It is connected directly to the LCM and supplies a square-wave signal with a frequency serving as a measure for the level. It receives its power supply as of terminal 15. Preheating The LCM is connected via a line link to the DDE control unit, from which it receives the signal to activate this lamp. Seat belt indicator lamp On US and Gulf State vehicles, this lamp lights as of "ignition ON" when the seat belt has not been buckled (closed). The belt contact switch which switches to ground is connected directly to the LCM. Defective lamps (in the LC display for check control messages) Door messages (in the LC display for check control messages) Catalytic converter overheating (Japan version only) Additionally: Gong with ignition key in lock (US version only) Manual headlight beam throw control If a manual headlight beam throw control facility is installed in the vehicle (identification feature): Knurled wheel for manual headlight beam throw control (on instrument panel) then this function is included in the LCM. The LCM receives a voltage signal from the knurled wheel for manual headlight beam throw control and activates the motors in the headlights accordingly. These motors are designed as stepper motors. They are connected in parallel. For this reason, although the electronic control can detect a short-circuit, it cannot detect a break in one of the two motors. Adjustment via the knurled wheel is no longer possible in the case of fault. The electronic control conducts a referencing run when the parking lights are switched on or when terminal 61 ("engine running") is activated. |

you could try this code:
TAGFAHRLICHT_ECE : Daytime running lights(ECE)[angle eyes] to aktiv Try playing with these two BLK_V_GED_ALS_SIDEMARK - this controls the functions of the side markers, but may turn everything off. aktiv BLK_V_GEDIMMT_ALS_ERSATZ aktiv BL_ALS_SL_DIMMEN - this should mabye turn off your brake lights as parking lights aktiv you could also turn on your high beams as DRL which is the normal GED_FL_ALS_DRL but then turn the intensity all the way down. using FL_DIMMUNG_ALS_DRL wert_06 The problem is I cant figure out what wert_06 means (_01-05 I can find). FL_DIMMUNG_ALS_DRL :wert_01 = 0 % wert_02 = 18,82 % wert_03 = 20,39 % wert_04 = 43,92 %wert_05 = 18,82 % setting intensity of high beams for daytime running light so maybe try wert_01 and see if the tagfarlict works for you. I sort of had this set up yesterday and it didnt work, but I was having problems with the ALS turning on and that may have disrupted the normal DRL function. Dennis - SL_INNEN_ALS_TWL : parking light SL_VORNE_ALS_ZUSATZ_BLK : front parking light as additional turn light Both are set to nicht. could be what we are looking for. the problem is the stupid nomenclature keeps changing between the lights. One minute they are side markers, then parking lights, then SL (standlict), but then there are three distinct sets of SL's, SL_LH, SL_LHI and SL_LV (and then rights), which I guess is Stand licht (rear?), stand licht inner (rear) and standlicht (front) that can be hot and cold monitored. I guess we could isolate the code by pulling the bulb hot and seeing if hot monitoring picks it up. then start coding off hot monitoring till it goes away. |
Right I was looking at that too. This is what I came up with.
STANDLICHT = SL = PARKING LIGHTS VORNE = AHEAD INNEN = INNER ALS - AS The issue is I can't figure out what TWL stands for. I guess nothing left to do but try it. LH = LEFT REAR LHI = LEFT REAR INNER LV = FRONT LEFT RH = REAR RIGHT RHI = REAR RIGHT INNER RV = FRONT RIGHT. So when the two are side by side, L = Left, V = Front, R = Right, H = Rear, I = Inner. Now what about UEBERSPG_ABSCHALT_SL_H - nicht_activ on mine. I think this is Overvoltage OFF Parking light Rear SL_VORNE_ALS_ZUSATZ_BLK - wouldn't this make the AE blink as turn signals? SL_INNEN_ALS_TWL = This translates to Parklight inner as (TWL) WTF is TWL? I think we need to try this one first. ================================================== ======= Side note, my car FL_DIMMUNG_ALS_DRL is wert_06, my drls are off. GED_FL_ALS_DRL is nicht_activ as well. |
Also another thing to try,
Did you notice that we have BLK_DIMMUNGS_OPT_1 = TURN SIGNAL DIMMING OPTION 1 - nicht_activ BLK_DIMMUNGS_OPT_2 = TURN SIGNAL DIMMING OPTION 2 - activ BLK_V_GED_ALS_PARKLIGHT = DIMMED FRONT TURN SIGNAL AS PARKLIGHT (i made this nicht_activ) Now I am curious what the dimming option 1 does. Maybe it turns on the turn signal only with the lights being in auto, or position 2. While option 2 turns on the corners in every position but zero. ADDING THE FOLLOWING JUST TO HAVE ALL THE TURN SIGNAL OPTIONS IN ONE POST BLK_V_GED_ALS_SIDEMARK - Dimmed front turn signal as side marker - activ CURRENTLY BLK_V_GEDIMMT_ALS_ERSATZ - Dimmed front turn signal as replacement light - activ CURRENTLY |
Wow, thanks guys really appreciate all the info thus far! Im looking at this stuff still trying to discern what I'm about to get myself into (in a good way though)!! Although I'm not going to tinker with this stuff till probably later next week, I want to figure out a plan of attack/place to start with regards to coding lights!

SL_VORNE_ALS_ZUSATZ_BLK - wouldn't this make the AE blink as turn except that it says parking light in the description. so we get back to that nomenclature thing. SL_VO sure feels like the AE's but it says parking lights. Oddly, I thought you told me to turn off BLK_V_GED_ALS_SIDEMARK - to get the front turn signals off, but I am showing it as active? so now I am confused what I used to turn off the turn signals. |
I have a feeling you are looking at your original file, and not the modified man file. Run ncs again and get the current file from there. I bet it's nicht_activ on that line.

Just tested: PWM_FL_BIX wert_02 => change to => wert_01 in LCM module high beam bi-xenon together with regular high beams working fine EDIT: coupled with simultaneous front fog lights, I have all 6 front lights shining at the same time!!! |
I forgot which one I did, but yea all 6 lights for me as well.
|
I was told by my coder that I can have the car self lock itself after 2 minutes once all the doors are closed, but I had that feature on another car and had my keys lock in it one time so I told him not to add that feature.
|
I think he meant the car will re-lock itself after you un-lock it and no door open for about 2 min.

normal high beams are the xenons with the covers up. flash to pass are the h7's in the inner bowls when you pull flash to pass, do both light up (h7's and xenon's)? when you push to go to high beams then are both lit? |
daytime, no front lights are on - flash the stalk, center highbeam halogen lights flash
daytime, no front lights are on - push the stalk, nothing happens. nighttime, xenons (low beams) are active, front fog lights are on - flash the stalk, center highbeam halogen lights flash, xenon lights remain on, bi-xenon shield is Not activated, front fog lights remain on nighttime, xenons (low beams) are active, front fog lights are on - push the stalk, center highbeam halogen lights come on, xenon lights remain on, bi-xenon shield is activated, front fog lights remain on |

will be doing on saturday. I think I am turning my side markers back on. Just not comfortable driving around without. I dont see any other cars without them, and I dont want some cop getting excited. |
Quote:
wait - I just looked at the lsz dump from a couple of pages ago, and I dont have this in my module? Is it possible its an older code? |
Quote:
i played with front sidemarkers, and still prefer them to be off - in daytime, no lights are on, at night the xenons are on - the parking lights are not on by themselves when the switch S8 is in auto position. if somebody can't see the xenons shining, then we have other problems than the front parking lights |

I think it's because term pulls the data from all his modules. Not the individual ones.
|

Term, look back on page 14 or 15 or so. Slick, did you use a different line? |
i found your post... interesting... i'll try to find out to see which module has it... anyone else tried this line? Slick, did you get that function coded? which module was that line?
|
hmm. all the positive results I have seen so far have been on 2006 cars. Maybe that was a later enhancement.
|
Yea mine works. I have the list of working functions at my office pc. I will look it up the tomorrow I hope.
|
did either of you get a chance to check your files?
I'm planning on working on the car tomorrow. no worries |
I got that flu man. Dying in bed not moving. Thank god for iPhone or I would kill myself. I did have a buddy bring my laptop home, but he left it in garage. I'll try to get down there later tonight if these shivers stop.
|
WHAT THE FUCK DENNIS GET OFF YOUR LAZY FUCKING ASS AND GO GET ME MY CODES.
Just kidding. I am shocked I havent gotten sick yet. knock on wood. Amazon sent me the wrong high beams, changing them looks like a nightmare, and without fancy white lights, I am just going to use the normal programming for now. maybe in the spring. Feel better, lots of fluids, etc.. |
Wait what codes do you need exactly anyway. I thought you did everything I did?
|
you guys were going to check and see what you used to have high beams and low beams on together. I dont have the PWM BIX line that Term does. You were going to see what your line was, my hypothosis is that this was a later feature than my 04.
|
I will go check, but the PWM_FL_BIX was in the LCM module... my car is october of 2005, i think (need to look in my own signature!!)... went from value 2 to value 1 - that info was not generally available, i even asked on the bmwcoding forum, and OOO (the guy that does the coding) suggested to try out the value 1, which i did...
I am still on hook to see if the AEs can operate as DRLs with engine running. I will try different combinations of the available lines to see if any of them can produce the desired result... I have a question on the E90 - I have an april 2011 E90 (335 ix, my wife is driving it), that has regular AEs... I saw same body style E90 (same headlight shape as mine) that had the new BMW bright AEs (not aftermarket, I've seen those), that are on the very new models ( i am still not too good with the new F designations)... checking the RealOEM did not produce different bulbs for the AE for E90 - does any of you know if the latest E90 have super bright Angel Eyes? |
Yea ill export the file from the LCM for you if I don't find the code line. Hold on, let me check my email.
|
Term, code e90. I believe the brightness is set via coding on those.
