You also have to look for 335xi and 535xi manual trannys, which are also "X53" versions of GS6. Still I'm not 100% confident they will bolt on ATC500, due they're coupled on ATC300, but from the pictures the holes seem to overlap.

3-series and 5-series manuals would be much easier to find than E53 ones. Now if someone would be able to do a test fit and confirm the fitment of those that would be awesome....

If anyone gets any GS6-X53 manual you just have to cut the bellhousing of your (preferably dead) auto tranny and also cut the bellhousing of the GS6 tranny and weld the bellhousing of auto on to manual - pretty easy actually. There's no way around, because you can't manufacture any adapter plate for GS6-X53 to couple it on N62, due the I6 are surprisingly mounted 1,2 inches further forward, than V8, according to my source.

Nick,
Ooops! Sorry. I misunderstood the specific tranny needed. Well, I guess I can keep my reserve cache of 6-speed transmissions unmolested. I will continue to try and help source the correct transmission.

Little update - the 4.6 engine will be completely pulled out and the new M62 will take it's place.

I got a new unused M62 block with 92 mm bore and also new S62 crank with rods and 89 mm stroke. New engine will be non-VANOS M62 wit Vortech V3 supercharger running on 0.7 bar (10 psi) boost with forged Woessner pistons for 9:1 compression ratio. The heads will be ported. The whole set-up will also get MAF-less operation controll and oil catch tank.

With compression ratio reduction I expect about 4850 ccm.

The car will be ready aprroximately in mid. june (so the plan).

Little update.

Still waiting for the pistons and considering to make the engine 4.7l NA with 10.8 compression ratio and about 370-380 Hp, because I have some worries especially about the front diff.

The car has covered 15 000 km (9 000 miles) with no single issue and very low fuel consumption of 17l/100 km (about 14 mpg) in the city.

Clean your engine bays! I don't think I've seen parts cars come in that bad!
