Does your car have an eye pod dock and cd changer? Could be the switch to select which device to be used. |

I wish it was that upgraded. It's not the engine kill switch because the engine went on no problem with the switch up or down. To answer the other question for upallnight i don't have a cd changer nor an iPod connection so that would not be an option. Still a mystery... Once it gets a little warmer ill be able to get into it to see where the wiring is headed. If its an amp then It will definitely save me time when upgrading the system. I saw some nasty reviews for hualingan so the best bet right now is the dynavin. Anyhow I don't know what was hooked up to this to require a switch so inconspicuous and the job was done quite well, atleast until I can see the rest of it. |

Some people use such switch to cut the current to ignition. This is like an anti-theft switch. If your key get stolen then he won't be able to switch on the car without pressing this switch ...

I had a switch like that in my Volvo XC70. My switch was an override to be able to watch TV while driving. Could it be something like that?

Terminator: I want some of those features! Grenhall: I don't have a navigation nor tvs (yet) so ruling that out |
Just an FYI (since it's been mentioned several times now) :)
A "kill switch" would be redundant...and even less effective than what's already built-in to the car's OBC. Our vehicles have a "CODE" feature where you can enter any numerical digit between 0000-9999 which extends the EWS (immobilizing) feature to someone that has a key to the car...preventing them from being able to start the car if they don't know the "code" that was entered by you. After 3 failed attempts...they will be presented with a "light & sound" show (the lights flash & the alarm siren goes off)....plus again, the car will not start. This feature is built into both OBC set ups...either thru the MID or thru the Nav monitor. To initiate the "CODE"...the ignition MUST be in position 1...on both the MID & the Nav screen...this will highlight the word "CODE" (nav screen) or it will appear on the far right of the MID...and allow you to initiate entering the numerical number of your choice. So installing a kill switch that may be known or found by someone who has access to your car keys (like a delinquent teenager or angry soon-to-be significant other)...the OBC code is more difficult to overcome unless you use a numerical "code" that they can easily figure out. If you use this feature please DON'T FORGET THE CODE YOU ENTERED...if you do, you'll be back begging for info on how to get your car started. That's because there is no "static" code number...but is created by you at the time of entering it...so if you can't remember what you put in...you're going to be stuck until you do remember it. ;) For those with the MID: http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...with%20MID.jpg (you can see the words CODE & SET on the far right of this MID in my e39 540iT below...press the CODE button to begin entering the "kill start" for those who have a key to your car) http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0009_large.jpg (Nav screen with the CODE feature highlighted for possible selection...again, the ignition MUST be in position 1 to initiate the CODE) http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...0displayed.JPG |

totally agree :iagree: i use code when i park a car in an area which does not look "clean" - say, filling up gas, i set up a code, as i don't want someone just walk up and drive off... i would just hand the keys off, and run, and let the crook figure out that the he got a brick, while i am dialing the cops... of course, if the kids are not in the car - then i'd stand my ground... looking at the picture of the monitor, it seems that the word TV on mine is spelled fully - TELEVISION... is that due to english? Also, what is Vi+ at the bottom line of the screen? what does stand for? |
