licence plate light problem
my right side licence plate light stopped working, i swapped bulbs L <---> R only the left side holder would light the bulbs
both bulbs are good.... removed the piece that holds the 2 id lights and the trunk release button i tried to separate the electronics from the painted piece but it is glued together and i'am sure it will crack into pieces if i tried is this a common part to get corroded on the inside? |
on the 4 pin connector, the pinout is -
1 - left license plate light 2 - trunk lid release button 3 - ground (brown wire) 4 - right license plate light (also feeds trailer module for parking lights for trailer) check for the voltage at the connector, if there is voltage there, then you have corroded light bulb holder |
You are not the first. Do a search - I posted what I finally did a couple years ago (or so it seems). Been good since.

glad i could help you in identifying the problem - how did you resolve the corrosion issue?

Water has been entering from the lens, the rubber is shrunk i guess, and i installed LeDs so the tempurature is lower than with halogen which i guess was keeping it dry before |
Two of mine previously went (one under warranty, the other out of pocket), both from water getting inside and corroding the connections on the circuit board. Before I put the third one in, I made sure to use a bit of gasket maker around each lens cover and the plug....it's been dry and working like a charm ever since!

Just had this issue occur with the RIGHT light going out. I started a thread for feedback and found this one.
Right light went out a couple weeks ago…replaced both lights with new Weisslicht LEDs… today the same Right Light went out. I also had a full Hamann perf kit installed a few months ago, front and rear with a lot of custom work done to the rear bumper including removal of the tow hitch and tied up the wiring harness for hitch. My initial thought is it had to be something to do with the wiring, being pinched, rubbed, or tampered with during that mod? What are your thoughts on how i can diagnose this issue?? THANKS! |
