Just bought an X5,newbie (Pics)

Hello i just bought a 2003 Grey green X5 5-speed with grey interior. It is BMW certified until 9/09 or 100k. It has 24k miles. Pics are below

I will take delivery on the car tomorrow or possibly thursday. As of now I have already bought 4.4 dual mufflers and I am looking to get:
20" 4.6 replica wheels, add 4.6 body kit, clear side markers, clear headlights, and clear tailights.
For the interior I have not yet decided. As I dont have NAV, I am thinking an eclipse navigation/dvd double din head unit, or maybe an avic-n1, followed by headrest lcd's.
Afterwards maybe angel eyes and the car should be done.
What do you guys think? Any experience with replicas? Has anyone done any of these mods?

Thanks and I look forward to becoming part of this forum

Nice choice, and welcome! I love the color.. My friend has an XC90 in nearly the same color. It's nice. And NICE CHOICE on the 5-speed! Definitely go for the angel eyes... I'm going to install some on my 3-series in a month or so. Yes to the 4.6 equipment, too... And are you going to put on OEM 4.4 exhaust or are you going for an aftermarket setup?

DIAZ 04-05-2005 09:23 PM

I just bought on ebay a 4.4 muffler, should get it tomorrow but since I dont have the car yet i cant go install it yet. WHere have you guys gotten your clear lights from?

UCrewX5 04-05-2005 09:24 PM

Welcome to X5world.

Just about every mod you referenced has been done at some point or another. Most if not all are documented on the main page of this site at http://xoutpost.com

Browse that and if you have questions please feel free to fire away.

Congrats on the new X5!!

DIAZ 04-05-2005 09:35 PM

yeah my main question is where are the best places to buy all these mods? I have lloked at a 4.6 body kit from eurorev.com on ebay for I think $675, or should I just buy the lips form BMW? I also want to buy lights in clear and replica 20"s I saw that they have them on ebay, and also on a forum on this website, I have also seen them from AAArims.com. and where can I get headrest lcds for the X5, I have seen some only in bavauto.com which are made to match the trim in the x5. As far as plastic housings for the radio I have only found conversion for single din, I want to install a double din navigation/dvd in the front. Any advice is greatly apreciated

Congrats! Did you buy that X5 at Foreign Motors West? If so I saw that X5 in the showroom and sat in it :) Sweet machine!

DIAZ 04-05-2005 09:38 PM

For the stereo/TV portion I'd highly recommend Sound in Motion , they are on Brighton Av/corner Commonwealth Av in Allston. They are great guys and have plenty of experience with high-end audio and BMWs. They have done my car which you can find on their website. The website is http://www.sound-in-motion.com . If you want to check their work in person I'd be happy to meet you at their shop as well.
Their install rates are very reasonable (~65$) and the work is probably the best on east coast. Derek (owner of SIM) is a great guy and they'll be happy to advise you on options/choices without any push towards a quick sale.

They have a whole host of installations at http://www.sound-in-motion.com/installs.html , there's also been an article on a number of different type of installs at http://www.sound-in-motion.com/mag_a..._trio/001.html

Congrats!! Grey green is a color that you don't see too often so it's very unique. All the mods you're thinking of doing will enhance the X5's looks tremendously.

I have the same color combo and its indeed rare. I just bought 20" replicas w/ Toyo Proxes, $2200 shipped cross-country from CA to MD, excellent quality and price. I bought my clear tails and sides from ebay, however, I chose not to change out the headlights, as you'll need to change out the entire headlight (unless you want to disassemble which is highly not recommended).

Can't help you on your sound system upgrade, as I just have the Premium w/ DSP and CD Changer. Just a word of caution, if you install an aftermarket setup, you'll lose steering wheel controls and onboard computer functions. I don't have NAV either (and regret that I didn't get it upfront) and went the portable GPS route, Garmin StreetPilot.

Enjoy your ride!!

DIAZ 04-05-2005 11:22 PM

Pseto why dont you sell me then your clear headlights. And there is a module that allows you to use your steering wheel controls.

JMH- Is your X5 the one that was featured oin that article that Sound in motion did, if so are you Deetz' brother? Yes I just got the new eclipse 2495 for the carrera, well Im still waiting for it and SOund in motion is doing everything, they are the best arpound here I think however they do such nice work that their installs get very expensive because they are such perfectioninsts and everything has to look perfect. Anyways thanks for the advice, I already went to talk to Derek and he is setting up a system for me right now and giving me a quote sometime this week. Wow there are a lot of people on this forum from around here.

jmh 04-05-2005 11:33 PM

Hi nope I am not a brother of Deetz :) but I have known Derek and Jim for a while. They are certainly the best around and as you said perfectionists.
Even if their installations might be a little bit more expensive it's worth the money as their work is outstanding and they will stand behind their work in case of problems. Good luck with you car and looking forward seeing it at one of the upcoming meets.

Welcome to X5world! You definitely have a unique color X5. I am very curious to see the finished product of your mod list. I would guess that you would be the only person with a Gray Green X5 with a 4.6is kit and 20's. Nice to see you got a manual transmission too; another unique thing.

The 4.6is body kit has gotten kind of expensive at most dealers. I have called Eurorev and they assured me that the kit they sell is genuine BMW. I wanted to do it but my money priorities have changed recently.

DIAZ 04-06-2005 02:36 AM

how much is the 4.6 kit at the dealers? also if you become a member of their car club for 30 boucks you get 20% off on parts

I don't recall how much it is from the dealer but as I recall when I priced it out a long time ago (after the price went up) it was around $1100. Joining the BMWCCA usually gets you a 10% discount which is nice but some BMW dealers like Crevier BMW and Pacific BMW give better deals than 10% off MSRP on parts. I would join the BMWCCA anyway because the $35 a year is worth it for the club magazine and being involved with BMWCCA events.

Juanted 04-06-2005 07:21 AM

Nice ride!

Congratulations, and welcome!

DIAZ 04-06-2005 11:42 PM

how does this work I have not yet taken delivery on my x5 , and its certified from a BMW dealership, would I have had to become a member before? I can go register to BMW now how exactly does this rebate work? I woulkd also be willing to not take delivery and redo process so I could get this rebate and use it on mods, please if you have any info on this let me know I really want to get started with my mods as soon as possible, so I need the money

Sorry, you're out of luck on this BMW purchase. You have to be a BMWCCA member for one full year prior to your purchase. Here's the official info.

This just gives you an incentive to buy another BMW in a year. :)

Hello Diaz,
Congrads on your new X5. It is indeed a very sweet color. Like you I also just picked up my X5 a few days ago. Will be modding it like you in the very near future. Doing the research thing first before I start buying.
Good luck and welcome!
