WOW!!! Tires are expensive.

I already know that of course but sticker shock still makes me laugh.
On that note what kind of tires have you E53 owners been buying?
Price, performance, tread wear, ect ext.

Well what size are you looking for?

I enjoyed my toyo proxes ST IIs. Just ordered a set of vreds to try them out.

Rule of thumb: stay away from Michelin. Over priced, and not great wear.

I've always had good luck with tire rack.

If you want the longest mileage on tires get all-seasons.

If you buy any summer tires, at least on our 4.8, I go only 10K-12K MAX on the rear set.

I also go through two sets of rears for each front set.

In the past I have used these summer tire brands. Prices are for each tire.

Yokohama Advans (staggered)
295/40-20 rear=$266
265/45-20 front=$290

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta Suv (staggered)
First set = $214/rear 315/35-20, $189/front 275/40-20
Second set= $269/rear 315/35-20

Just had Ultra-High Performance All-season General G-Max AS03, size 275/40 fitted to four 20x9.5. Not enough experience with them to say what kind of mileage.

I've had the Conti Extreme DWS for about a month or two now. Great ride, quiet, decent handling in the dry, and have been above average in the ton of snow we've had this year. Paid $1288 mounted and balanced after my local shop matched Tire Rack's price. Highly recommended so far.

I was shocked when i priced Michelins, Discount Tire wanted $1800+ so i went with Bridgestone Duellers for $1300 otd.

So...how are those Vreds?

I'll be in the market this spring for a set of staggered 20" tires to mount on a set of staggered Style 87s I have in storage (awaiting spring removal of my dedicated 18" winter Michelin Lattitude X-Ice xi2s). I've been tossing around the idea of either the Conti DWSs or the Nitto Motivos (60k mileage warranty perked my interest). I wanted to go with an all-season tire instead of a summer tire...but I've noticed the Euro reviews of the Vredestein Ultra Sessantas which has piqued my interest.

(sorry for the thread hijack) :)

Vreds are summer tires.

Pros: Looks, handling, fairly inexpensive.

Cons: They will not look as meaty/wide as other brands. They run smaller width compared to other brands of the same size.

Somehow i have always managed to get very good pricing on Pirellis...I am a new X5 owner, but my X3 went through a set of Scorpion STRs in 60K kms so i went and bought another set, ran it year round (including canadian winters) with absolutely no issues. Quiet, durable and handled very well...I have pirellis scoprion winters on right now and i would never tell they are winters, the truck handles very well. very quiet as well...

If I was buying for my old X5, it would be Michelin.

Just bought Pirellis for the X3.

Life is too short for cheap tires.
