I noticed you are new to the thread. Need to know year of your X5, if bluetooth has worked in the past, if you have NAV etc. There no issues on your other BMW, are you attempting to pair the same phone?

deanblue9 04-11-2013 07:45 PM

Its 2005 4.8is with DSP and nav. I tried my Iphone first without success. Then, i proceeded to pair the BT with wife's iphone and no success. Her phone is mot paired to either my M5 or her x5. Don't know if the BT had ever worked before because I acquired the X5 back in September and never pairing the BT again after my intial attempt back in September

First, establish if your build date is 10/04-up. Then you must have either the premium pkg or BMW Assist option.

If yes to the above, then did you follow the instructions below? KL R & KL 15 are ignition positions 1 & 2.

Qsilver7, thanks for a detailed post once again (do you just have all this information on your harddrive somewhere or you know it all by heart?! Amazing!)

Just to add to your post, my car never displayed pairing mode ... just said "please wait" which was somewhat confusing as i thought something else was supposed to happen before i could pair my device. however i needed to pair right when it said "please wait..." on MID

deanblue9, What happens when you are trying to pair? Do you even see your vehicle in the list of available devices to pair with on you iphone?

deanblue9 04-11-2013 08:09 PM

My car is late production with production date: 5/05

What is KL R&KL 15 andd ignition 1 2?

deanblue9 04-11-2013 08:12 PM

With my iphone. It shows the bluetooth from my M5. But, when I tried wit my wife's phone; Nothing. The BT just stuck in search mode

This BT is so stupid and complicated. I never have so much issues with my M5, the wife's old x5 3.0 and her new 2006 4.8is. But, I feel like a need an engineer degree or BMW master's degree to get this stupid thing to work.

Other vehicles may be different but for my 2005 the Pass Key numbers were located on a plastic Bluetooth card shipped with with my vehicle. Without that number the phone will not pair.

Pairing code must be entered within 30 seconds and car should be running.

I was able to obtained the PK. However, I cant even get the BT to detect anything. Never even get to the point where it would ask me for PK. I dont know anymore. Really frustrated. Have gone thru most of the threads under "Bluetooh" anx tried various methods without success. :(

Need some clarification. Do both you and your wife have iPhones?
As it stands--no phone will pair with your 2005 4.8.
Your phone pairs with the M5. What year is your M5?
Does either phone pair with the the 2006 4.8 or the 3.0? What year is the 3.0?

Pairing instructions have changed since Bluetooth was first offered. Still not the easiest thing to do but easier than the introduction. As an example, later models don't ask for the car bluetooth pass key they ask for the phone pass key, that is the source of the 0000 and 1234 iPhone default suggestions.

If your phone pairs with the M5 suggest you pair your wife's phone and write that process down and keep it in the glove box. Let's get something accomplished. Take your time and be sure the manual process works as written or what you wrote down is exactly what you did. I usually don't resolve problems like this on the first try so when I have found the solution I may not be exactly sure of what I did. I have gotten to the point that I write down every attempt so I can be sure I have a list I can use for process of elimination.

Compare the telephone instructions in the 2006 4.8 from those you wrote down for the M5. They may have changed but it is likely they will be close enough to the M5 that you can pair both phones

Then lets go to the source of your frustration the 2005 4.8. Compare what you wrote down for the M5 and 2006 4.8 to the instructions that are in your manual and to those earlier in the thread by Qsilver7 and hopefully pairing instructions for the 2005 will make sense from your success with the other vehicles. If not, please post what you tried on the 2005 that didn't work.
