X-drive Actuator Motor?
I have the trifecta issue that most of us have been dealing or dealt with at some point.
I removed the actuator motor/ gear to give it a turn and inadvertently (polite way of saying i'm a dumb a$$) :p:, pulled the shaft to the motor (worm gear?) out from the motor casing. I reinserted it and felt like it was back in place with the spring contacts touching where I could see it should touch. Well, as you would've guessed.... I'm getting code "5462- Error actuator or increased power requirement for clutch". I'm assuming I didn't put it together correctly as when I try to reset the TC via computer it will briefly activate (almost like it's trying to turn/ move) and the error message pops up. I'm going to remove the actuator again this evening and take a better look at it with the possibility that I didn't reinsert the motor shaft properly and possibly some of the brushes, etc aren't making contact when activated. Has anyone had the shaft to the motor out, reinsert it and have it work as expected? Any other details I should look for or consider (besides the obvious- :loser:) ? Thanks and you guys are great! Thanks Neil!
The actuator motor is okay... Thank goodness! I took it apart again last night, cleaned everything with electric spray, reset and tested the unit with DIS and encoded with SSS. Oddly enough... When I tried to update/ load the software with SSS it asked for the 7 digit part number off the VTG module and similarly with the EGS or tranny module. Had no clue what or where to find the 7 digit part number but, any input will be helpful! In addition, when starting the truck the 4x4 is not on. It does however, pop back up about 2 miles after starting. I guess it clears after shut down??? The codes showing are: 54C6 55C4 |
The actuator goes through a self-test every time you start your car, it may be whiles driving the ratio from front to rear wheels changes according to acceleration so the 4x4 light comes on, that may happen if the bad part of the gear is used when it rotates.

Update-
Last weekend I was able to update the software for the new Bosch 8.0 ABS/ DSC module as well as update the transfer case module. Monday, during a small trek into town no codes or trifecta showed. Tuesday morning headed into work the trifecta reappeared (well crap!) about 15 miles after leaving home. I used PA soft to reset the codes (mostly ABS related) and on the way home no codes. All good so far! This morning I get about 1/2 mile from work and roll over train tracks that were pretty rough and then the 4x4 light popped up. I'm wondering if the jarring from the tracks caused a wheel sensor to freak out and throw the code? I'll check for the code at lunch today and update... |
