There is a secondary air pump below the engine on the air filter side to help with emissions. Whether or not they actually call it a "secondary" air pump is beyond me. I call it that due to its purpose and from the other 3 BMWs I've owned.

Oh I see, they didn't replace the air pump, just rebuilt the HVAC lines I believe, one had cracked apparently letting out noise.. Who knows but problem is solved!
