2006 4.8is "bluetooth ready"
As the title says after checking my vin it says my vehicle is "bluetooth ready" but not able to connect to my phone. I was under the impression 05-06 all had BT standard.
Can I assume now that I need to buy a module to be able to use this? Stealership said it was an extra 1200!!! options? |
If your screen has got the phone 'option' on it, you have Bluetooth. It's a rubbish system to connect to, but lift up the armrest while the car is off, hold down the phone looking button (assuming you have one there) and turn the car round to ignition 1 and after 4 seconds or so take your finger off the button. If you have bluetooth, your system will tell you the car is in pairing mode. If nothing happens, you don't have it.
Heaps of options for bluetooth, the integrated system is good, but not worth $1200. Having said all of that, a 2006 4.8 would definitely have all the specs. |

Thanks for the help |
You want the talking head one. There should be a button inside the armrest. You can use the one on the steering wheel, but I've had intermittent problems with it actually working.
It's the button in this photo: http://www.bimmernav.com/images/assist013.jpg |
I will look for it, my armrest doesn't look anything like the one in the pic
|
Neither does mine, but I have the button inside the armrest. You should have the button there somewhere. You'll also need the connection code which will be on a loose card in your books/documentation pack.

well I looked for it in my console and its not there, I tried doing what you told me to and no pairing prompt came up. Im pretty sure from looking at another post that i can find the code in the bluetooth box below the nav dvd drive. Maybe I need to input the code before pairing? Unfortunately the vehicle didn't come with its original manual etc. My options list says i am pre wired for bluetooth and from what I have gathered from other posts in an 06 4.8is I should be able to somehow get this working

Not all e53s have the pairing button inside the center console (especially if you don't have a phone installed). You would need to use the talking head button on the steering wheel...and you'll also need to have BMW ASSIST or the premium pkg.
And yes...you will need the PK (pass key) code BEFORE you'll be able to pair your BT phone to the X5. Once you know you have all the essentials installed plus the PK code...it only requires following the simple instructions exactly as they are given to pair the two together: (HINT: KL R & KL 15 = ignition position 1 & 2 STEP 3 - requires that you turn your mobile phone's BT search on to look for the X5) http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...0e83%20e85.jpg-http://bimmerboard.com/members/q/ori...ist%20Info.jpg |
If you're lucky, the pass key will be on a card that comes with the owners manual and documentation. If the previous owner didn't hang onto that card (as mine did not), then you will have to get into the back and find it on a sticker on the BT module itself. It's a rectangular, aluminum box (about 10" x 5") that should be mounted behind the driver's side rear panel at a 45 degree angle. I actually to loosen the mounting bracket and pull out the module to be able to see the label on my module.

It seems Like I have the S639A Option "Preparation f mobile phone cpl. USA/CDN"
Im gonna crack into the back momentarily and get the code, see what happens from there. Hopefully its all smooth sailing from there!!! Thanks for all the help so far....I say so far because I know there is a never ending list of things that im sure I will need help with in the near/distant future! |
