Stupidity... Speakers, again
Ok, so many of you saw that i though my midrange was dead. well, i'm an idiot, my midbass is dead...
anyway, i ordered the wrong speakers, oh well, 20 bucks. Heres why i'm now VERY confused. After going through looking at the speakers, i realize that the only mid bass that is actually working in my car is the front drivers. the rest of the mid bass speakers are DEAD. both rear doors, nothing. but the tweeter/midrange on the rear doors are functional Also, my tweeter on the passenger side is spitting out nothing but static... Could my amp be shot? Or could the connections be shot in the speakers? I'm at a loss... :dunno: |
yikes!

Not uncommon to be the amp. Tone the speakers at the wires of the amp and see if they will work, at that point you would know what the problem is.

take a 9 volt battery, attach two wires to the terminals and touch the two wires on the corresponding wires for each speaker. you will here a slight pop in the speaker. Or go to a stereo shop near you and have them tone the speakers with a tone generator. The amp is located D/S behind the panel to the rear, if you have a changer, or nav unit, its located in that area, look down and you will see the amp and connections. I assume you have DSP correct?

I have a friend who can hook up a voltage meter to it. I'll have him do that |
A voltage meter or DMM is not going to make the speakers do anything, however you can take an ohms reading at the wires and see if you have an open or what the reading is. I like toning the speakers because you can tell if the wires, and the speakers are ok.

Ok I'll check that out.
Today while driving to work, my passenger mid bass popped on, sounded blown, then popped off. I'm thinking it may be the connections? Someone mentioned the connections going bad somewhere here. Any ideas? |

First and foremost, it is not your AMP. So rule that one out. I went through this same shit, going crazy thinking it was my AMP. Got a new AMP and problem was still there. Returned new AMP luckily and continued to fist pumping to no sound and sometimes fist pumping to Alvin and the Chipmunks because when all my door speakers went, I only had tweeters. Decided to take door panels off and check each speaker individually and viola. I eventually after finding out the problem upgraded to BSW and been banging ever since. I don't even need a sub with my BSW's.
Now on to the problem. The pics show you what the problem with our bullshit OE speaker are. |
Cisc0 thank you so much, I will try to help Naz out with this and bring back the fistpumping to Jersey's finest as quickly as I can. If my DSP speakers ever go I would definitely try the BSW Stage 1 speaker upgrade too, I'm sure they sound amazing.
