New X5 OWNER!!
Hello guys, im glad im part or lets say will be part of this club soon as i haven't took possession of the suv yet.
Heres a bit of a back ground of me. My for first car I had a 1997 jetta GT 2.0, then i sold it and bought a 1999 jetta the mk4 design, sold that when my father got a 1997 328i BMW i fell in love with the car right away, but the car has a salvage tittle on it at as it was stolen and my father got it from the auction. The 328i sat in the garage for about 4 to 6 months, tell i got all the missing parts from the inside of the car and sold the 1999 jetta. I fixed up the 328 lowered it put rims catback shark program and intake, and started to drag it in my city race track before it got shut down for good. After 3 to 4 years i got married and bought a house at the same time, but before i got married like 1 month before i got married I bought my self a 2002 jeep tj. The 328 wasn't really idle to drive in he snow winters that we have here in Calgary Alberta. So the jeep bug bit me and along came the jeep lift and bigger tires and off roading was my new hobby. At this time i had the 328i and my jeep tj, also my wife had her own car too, so the bmw had to go, i still have the car now since im having a bit of a hard time or lets say im not trying hard to sell it lol. http://www.xoutpost.com/<a href=http...pse267e61e.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/P8140923.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pse267e61e.jpg My wifes car is a 2006 Acura RSX. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps142dc25d.jpg Since we are going to be getting a dog she wanted something bigger, she always liked the look of the x5 2005 and up so fast forward to Tuesday 7/16/2013 we found a good looking 2005 x5 with 88k on it and this is not in miles this x5 was at a land rover dealer. As soon as we walk in the dealer sales men/women where all busy talking to customers, as me and my wife turn around there stood a sales man welcoming us and asking how he can be of help, I told him we are here to see this x5, he tells us one sec picks up his sheet of paper and tells us he will be right back, he comes back and tells us lets go check this thing out. We walk out side and take a look at the x5 looked very clean in and out, the x5 was priced at 23000. also its a 4.4i v8 As we got in to the car the first thing i notice is the check engine light im mechanically inclined so i know my stuff, my jeep or the 328i have never seen a shop since i have owned them. We go on a small test drive the x5 was smooth as silk we get back to the dealer and we go over some numbers i stayed 2 hrs going back and forth on the price and the trade in price of the RSX. With all my experience in cars and such the sales man was listing to what i had to say and never once tried to over sell me, this was an older sales man with 30+ years of sales exp under his hands he was really open and still is 0 problems every thing i had asked for he has given me. so we settled on a price of 14951 all fees in plus the car trade in, the x5 has some OZ rims that i hated with a passion i was going to walk out just on the rims alone, so after a bit of back and forth with the manager him self he gave in and told me to go out to his dealer yard and find another x5 and if i liked the rims he will swap them with the OZ rims and tires. At that point i knew i was treated good and being treated good. The pen goes down and we bought us an x5. So the next day i went over to the dealer and told them i want a full inception on the x5 and i want it done at the bmw dealer and not their dealer, they agreed, the land rover dealer also have done an over haul on the ac system. I went in today to retest drive the suv for a full 20/30 min drive and gave it a good look over my self, I noticed there was oil all over the driver side, it was also noted by the dealer too, so the x5 will be going in to a full inspection at my local bmw dealer, with in next week the x5 will be in my drive way |
:xoutpost:
Need picture of the OZ wheels and the ones you replaced them with. What's the code for the SES? Your introduction needs pictures to be completed :D |
settled at 14,951 before the trade (so the trade value is deducted from 14,951?) And the X was listed at 23,000? That's some markup you guys have in Canada!
Regardless, congrats! |
So you asked for an inspection AFTER signing the papers and seeing the SES light on and oil on drivers side? Yikes, congrats on the purchase and good luck. If things turn bad during the inspection do you have an out?
Ricky - I read his statement to mean that was the OTD price with the RSX in the deal. |
My wife took some pics ill post them when I get home.
Yes I can back out of the deal and get my deposit back if I don't get the x5 the way I want it I went threw the x5 inch by inch. I'm not sure what the check engine light was but when I test drove it again the light was not on the dash and I drove it for 20 to 30 mins even tested out the every gear in triptronic mode also sped up to 140 on the high way and did dead stop and lunches cranny was stiff no jerks or anything also no oil burning or blue smoke from the mufflers I took a vid of the engine running and where the oil is on the driver side ill post that tonight also. Everything goes well ill be getting extended warentee for 80k or 4 years that covers everything from power train to any electronics in the x5 |
Hope to see the X in your driveway soon.

Hey guys thanks for the warm welcome as promised here are the pics that my wife took.
there will be alot to come when she comes home. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pse2470681.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps700dcfeb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps79ada86d.jpg so those are the rims that came with the x5 that i hated and looked even uglier in person lol got the dealer to take those rims off and replaced them with these http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps50c10dc2.jpg also that ugly silver stripe on the x5 is gonna be removed |
|
i wonder if it is an oil leak or a power steering fluid leak...
and the stripe gotta go, you are right... lol... welcome aboard!!! |
Thanks terminator, yeah I think it isn't an oil leak because it was all over the place and there was some over spray on the wheel well on the bottom but they assured me its gonna be fixed they have been great with me since this experience
|
Welcome!

|
Both of those wheels are meh. It already has the iS kit installed. Need some 20" wheels.
|
Those OZ Canyons look decent when they are the right size, but those looked a bit small and the offsets were all wrong...
|
A fellow jeepster, and you got the X in the best color! Welcome aboard :)
When the jeep bug bites....it bites hard! BTW, that smittybilt cargo net looks strangely familiar!! ;) http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/t...5.jpg~original |
Needs new rims!
the X will look wimpy with those small rims. the 20's are wider and give the car an overall better look. welcome to forum. Congrats on the X take care of the car and it will take care of you. -never got stuck in snow on mine, and I tried very hard to get stuck. Snow over wheel wells, no weight in car and it still plows thru even on a full stop. |

What are these Chinese knock off the RUF wheels, similar to Chinese knockoff of Rolex - Lolex?

Save some more and get something much better.
|
i live in a place where we only got 2 mons of summer

Personally I would be on the lookout for someone selling their OEM wheels, maybe from a 4.4i Sport, 4.6is or 4.8is. I really like the look of some of the OEM wheels and then you know the quality is good as well. Having said that, I did purchase aftermarket wheels to run on my X in the winter as I was pressed for time and couldn't find anything locally.
One thing to look out for - most aftermarket rims are not load rated to handle what you could potentially put in your X. I believe, if memory serves, that most aftermarket wheels are rated to 690kg, but you need 720kg or better... |
Thanks for the heads up I already got winters 18s so gonna get 20 summers I just like the deep dish look on rims ill make sure to see the rating on the rims never really thought of that

A small update, so I haven't gotten the damn x5 yet but I did go to the bmw dealer to check out what they have found with the x5 and what they fixed, there was an oil leak from the rear main seal, some hesitation from the engine and they changed some sensor I forgot what it was called but the final bill was $3450 to fix every thing does this add up money wise?
|
Can't help you there. Is the Land Rover dealer going to pitch in or is that all yours?
All that counts is if you are OK with the end cost of your X5. Wherever you ask if a repair price is right, certainly of a forum that stretches around the globe, someone will take a dump on your doorstep not only about the price but will spread some on your X at the same time. My suggestion is don't ask unless enjoy being depressed. Since you have already asked, assuming you really need input rather than are seeking endorsement, suggest you only consider responses from your part of the world and not only from the forum--ask the BMW tech that worked on your X or some other qualified person that you know. |

Nah the price of the x5 is set and agreed on, any fixes to the x is all on the dealer. But normally for a rear main seal on an x5 how long does it normally take? my sales person when he gave me the update told me the x5 needed about 18 hrs of work and such |
The dealer has a labor hours schedule for each job by which the mechanic is paid. That's what they gave to you. The mechanic will fix it in less hours but you won't know when he starts or if he works on it continuesly. What they quoted you is total allowable labor hours

Welcome Canadian :-) mine had some leaks also but at the end it was only the clamps (loose) ...now at 119kil i'm going for the tranny fluid changed ...Good luck !
Forgot to mention: The X is sometime not very please with our minus 25 degrees during winter season...turns out with possible miss fire at cold start (intermediate lever issue on mine) she likes to sleep in an heated garage... |
If the 4.4 is anything like the 2.8 in my 328i then I would no complain that thing started in -45 one time lol this will be garaged also spend 8 hrs out side when wife goes to work

Wheel appearance is personal preference. If you like what you have that is all that matters. If you are planning to change the wheels, I say there is no reason to ask the forum for input unless it is about construction or specific experience with your choice. IMO, only If you are prepared to defend your decision or are seeking buyer's remorse is it ever a good idea. I am sure there are those that don't like my wheels. That's fine, I am not trying to be others I am still reaching for who I am. As an example, I purchased Plasticoat to paint my wheels, it has been in the garage for a month. This was after I previously purchased several cans to sample different colors. Right now I think it was for the wrong reasons. I respect that many have painted their wheels, I'm guessing the majority color choice has been black. Across all vehicles in Dallas that is the case. My preference was a gloss dark gray. I haven't done so because I like the current appearance and am not yet sure I will change them at all. |
Hhhaha I got it off of kijiji and yes the wheels doubt do justice bu with my line of credit at its max the wheels will have to wait
