What is the reason some have gone through the firewall and is there a particular place they are making the connection?
|
I think they generally go through the firewall in the event that they install a switch for manual operation....I could be wrong though as I'm not very familiar with the PF install requirements.
Depending on how you want the angel eyes to operate, you could utilize a trigger wire & relay so that they function much like the facelift rings. |

Personally I'd just use a single trigger line, on the LCM side and tap into the parking light operation, as I would only use my angel eyes as parking lights when the light switch is in position 1 (factory operation), I never use auto on my switch. If you have any other questions feel free to ask, and pics along the way would be nice! What type of rings did you get and what other mods, if any are you doing while the housings are being opened? Fresh bulbs, projector tweaks, turn signal modding, etc? |
I don't recall the angel eyes brand but I went with the Ebay LEDs recommended by the forum. All new bulbs. I decided to see if I like 6000k bulbs and same in fog lights. I have stealth bulbs for the turn signals. I will be doing all changes to get as close to current appearance as possible. My headlight lens are in good shape but I am going to polish them while I have the headlights removed.
I don't like electrical jobs unless I am working only with only two wires in matching colors, all by themselves and blinking to confirm they are the right wires. I will do one light at a time so I can take pictures of the front showing old and new in place as well as pictures of the steps that I am concerned about that I haven't found pictures to help-I.E haven't found a DIY for angel eyes that makes me feel warm and fuzzy confident it will go smooth. |

BC,
If you have the angel eyes I recommended (the LED's with the wiring harness from Hong Kong I think?), they come with a relay harness. You'll notice the positive cable with in line fuse, ground cable, then you'll notice 2 leads with 2 connectors on each. Each lead goes to each headlight and plugs into the angel eye wires (they should be red and black wires coming off each ring, as well as each "connector lead" should have red and black, and those connectors only can plug in one way so you won't get the wiring reversed. Then on the relay there should be two trigger inputs (and you probably received quick splices), those trigger inputs should be run through the firewall on the passenger side and tapped into a +12v source that is ignition on (to operate them as DRL), and another trigger input which you tap into the footwell light on the passenger side positive wire (so that they will fade in/out as you lock, unlock the car). This listing shows the pics of the connectors in the kit (if you got the kit I think you did), should be pretty straightforward. 1pcs Wiring Harness Connector Cable with Relays for SMD LED Angel Eye Halo Ring | eBay Let me know if you have any questions I am here to help. Personally, I am not a fan of the always on angel eyes as DRL, nor the fade in/out feature, so when I get to doing my headlight retrofit I will be planning on taping off one of the triggers, and just running one trigger into the passenger side firewall, and finding the LCM wire for factory parking light operation, so that angel eyes operate as parking lights when the light switch is in position 1. JBelknapp wrote up a guide to do this here, if you were interested: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...operation.html |
Yes, I have the AEs you recommended with the wiring harness pictured.
Unfortunately, many of the pictures in JBelknapp link don't come up but I feel much better with the instructions you added. |
By mistake or during a brain f**t I ordered HID fog light harness intended of just a new H3 bulb. Now I have the HID bulb and harness but not ballast. Not sure I want to order the ballast unless it is easy to secure the ballast in place.
Is it easy to secure the ballast near the fog lights? |
Clean the vertical panels behind the fogs with alcohol and slap those puppies up there with as much industrial Velcro as will fit.
