This is being done in a separate thread under a separate forum and I think that link was posted here somewhere. The contact in that thread was collecting names and vehicle info. BMW is unwilling to do anything but log a complaint at this stage due to age of the vehicle and that it is out of manufacturers paint and corrosion warranty by a good amount of time. Doesnt hurt though to thrown your hat in that ring.

I bought my truck in this specific color, Estoril Blue, and hope that wasnt a poor decision on my part. I have seen a number of them and they did not show these signs except 1 and it was a relocated miami car to Georgia. I wax it regulalrly and previous owner had it as garage kept. The pic of the one FL car with the windshield weather strip literally rotting away makes me believe that had something to do with it and maybe the salt air? It does seem though that this issue is not specific to Estoril as other have experienced similar behavior.

Mam - did it look like that when you bought the car or did it deteriorate that quickly? IIRC you bought it fairly recently.

I have on 02 jet black and it has the same paint peeling problems. It is peeling at the door seems and where the roof line and tailgate meet. Recently a circular patch about 2x2 inches peeled off on the hood.

yes, I bought the X in late June, and it had this peel already... It hasn't deteriorated any since, but I'm sure it will. i want to stop it as soon as possible...

So just floating a thought. What if you sprayed some automotive clear on it for a bit would that help slow things down or is the damage already done?

Is it's weak to the substrate, it doesn't help...

FWIW, this is a very common issue on the inside edges of 1/4 panel, hood, door edges, D Pillar/Trunk Edge...

This issue is a factory issue. My hood jams, front door jams were all "undersprayed". It looked as thought there was white wax in the jams. I had a BMW Regional Rep look at it a few years ago and the way it was explained to me was that the issue originated at the factory when the vehicle was first painted.

They re-painted the sides of my hood for me at no cost.
