very low mileage 4.8is for sale on craigslist

was looking around at X5's for sale and came across this

2006 BMW X5 4.8is

it was bought from RM auctions in 2010. put on 10K miles since then.

if anyone is in the market for a practically brand new X5 here is your chance to get one. i'm not affiliated with the owner

did he say 6000 miles? 2006? in 2010 it had 121 miles on odometer and 121.2 on tripometer? so, from October 20th, 2005 until the sale date in 2010 nobody (!) hit the tripometer reset even by accident? and the car remained on a trickle charger and never lost its battery in that time frame, so the tripometer stayed intact...

I am not saying that this is a fraud... I am saying that this car is not checking out too well - I would be tearing into the IKE (cluster) and the LCM (light module) to check the manufacturing dates of both to see if they are original modules or had been replaced at anytime during the vehicle's life... Also, would check into CarFax for the registrations, and possibly into Customs databases to see if the car had been outside of the US, where the usage has not been reported to authorities...

if everything checks out fine, then a normal PPI is due...

KBB says $28.8k sell price,$40k is way to high.

OP, i am going to have to agree with Terminator on this. You need to do a bit of digging to really make sure everything is in order and that the car really has that low of miles, not sure how you could confirm that but you should really hard into it before you shell out that kinda $. Now from the cars perspective, you cant go wrong with the E53 4.8 and this one looks really nice. Good luck and let us know how it goes

40 large ones, is steep. I would triple check Terminators suggestions....

Probably one of big gars cars. He was an active member back a while ago. Had tons of low mileage cars.

i'm not sure what made you guys think im buying that overpriced X5. i was just looking around on craigslist to see what there was for sale. already got a 4.4i which i might trade in for an X5 M later this year.

just letting you guys know that this truck is for sale, there are people who will dish out that much for a truck that is practically brand new like the one i listed

RM Auctions site says it went for $55k. Ridiculous. My 4.8is with only 5k more miles was WAY less that the $40k asking price 2.5 years ago- and that was from a BMW dealer.

Of course, mine wasn't red. :kiss3:

It probably is legit. There are many references to a gaggle of extremely low mileage e53s on this board. If I recall correctly there was an avid BMW collector that sold some of his collection a few yrs ago. There was an article about him buying a few examples of new models. Made it sound like he did it so that when one got old there would be another ready to replace it with.

Scott

Edit- googling "rm auction bmw collector x5" yields results from 2010

Not a wise investment on his part. I'd pass on that car.
