Is there a way to install the driver on Win7 64? I'd prefer to use my newer laptop, the one that has XP is ancient and accepts a maximum of 1gb ram.

Go with BM Technic. It's a complete system that includes a diagnostic interface cable, the appropriate drivers, AND all the software (INPA, DIS, TIS, NC Expert, plus a couple more that I'm forgetting right now). The company is in the UK and my total including an adapter for the older style round 20-pin connector, with shipping, was about $100. And it was delivered in about a week.

Worth every penny. No muss, no fuss. No hacking of eBay cables, experimenting with drivers, or any of that nonsense. It has already paid for itself by allowing me to encode a new power top control module for my wife's Z4 - the dealer wanted $165 to do it.

I purchased CarSoft a few years ago for about $350 - what a complete and total waste of money. It is utterly useless. My cheap little OBD-II scanner from Wal Mart was more useful. So I was skeptical about BM Technic. But "apples and oranges" isn't really an accurate description of the difference between the two. It's more like apples and fishing poles.

After buying several other cables I wish I had gone with the Romanian solution on eBay. Although BMW scanner 1.40 works great as a simple scanner/coder.

is this the scanner you would recommend on ebay or is it too cheap?

If you want simple get that. If you want full feature go Romanian. I am glad I have both for a bit over 60 bucks.

whats the big diff between romanian (i can`t seem to find that one yet) and the bmw scanner 1.40?

can you tell me if you can change the programming for the central lock system to unlock doors when shifter is put in park with the bmw scanner 1.40?

That is the Romanian, it gives you all the programs the dealer uses to diagnose & code the car. It is much more learning intensive.

Also, the seller was amazing, he remoted into my machine 3x and set it up. Communication was very fast & he was great.

I changed how many KPH the locks at, not sure about unlocking in park.
