This X was purchased from Carline Automotive I believe before you purchased it from Paramount if I am correct. Is this the one that Paramount had up for sale recently? Nice X BTW

No untoward noises emitted from the engine bay, pretty tick-tock as far as I can tell.

Not sure of the relevance to this subject, but I did have the X5 coded by OK- All coding was pretty much run-of-the-mill stuff…DRL, doors, sunroof/windows etc. And the rough running was an issue prior to. But in the interest of clarity….

Interesting what UAN was saying about the injector shut-off. Is this a drive-by-wire system (accelerator)? The electrical architecture on these things makes me want to pull my hair out. Nothing like good old cost engineering. Maybe there is a bad injector lurking somewhere. Svenson Bros. (Kingston Shop) reported a less than nominal fuel pressure prior to changing out the fuel filter, but not wildly out of spec, and I really can’t remember if we got another reading after the install.

I keep coming back to electrical. The intermittent nature of the airbag, the sitting-overnight onset of the rough running, damp weather. Who would have believed a 928 would seem like a walk in the park.

Yes, your X has drive by wire accelerator

Need to have battery tested for volts after sitting all night, and check alternator output at idle and say 2000 RPM to see max output. Bad battery or low charge on the battery can cause warning lights to do lots of weird stuff.

Does the miss go away after the engine is up to operating temperature?

Need to be sure the fuel pressure is confirmed as normal when key is on, at idle and increases appropriately as engine demand for fuel increases.

Fuel injector performance should be checked though there should be a noticeable loss of hard acceleration with a faulty injector.

Do you know if the pre cat O2 sensors have been replaced?

Do you have some background info on the X? Was the VCG recently replaced?

Sounds like a good plan, I’ll have the shop check it out. It should have been checked out during the PPI but the BMW dealer I used (Maranello BMW, Toronto) for same was absolutely useless.

Re: Miss. It becomes less evident at normal operating temperature however, at low speeds, any kind of abrupt throttle input causes the stumble. More throttle, more stumble.

Fuel pressure is on the scope of work I sent to Otto’s BMW, so will let you know when I do.

No mechanical history at all on the X5. O2’s are seemingly operating as per design. If not, should show up on scan, yes? 140KMs on the odo, time to replace them?

RB-

Just when you think you’re out it pulls you back in!!

Beast is in the shop (Otto’s BMW, Ottawa) (I’m in Saudi Arabia). I am sending emails to Stephane the SA on a regular basis. These guys are being pretty good to me, by going and taking the X5 out of storage and driving it into Ottawa for me. As far as I know they should have it in the shop early this week to start looking at systems. Will send another email to them later this week with the list of suggestions gathered here.

Seats. Found them on Kijiji. Management will be picking them up for me later this month. I haven’t told her they need to also be transported to Ottawa. I’ll sneak that item in later on in the month.

My seats- I’m already looking for someone to change the color of the seats to Imola Red for me. There is an interior with same (sport seats) available that I’m thinking of picking up- My plan is to, depending on color matching etc, to change both the comfort and current sport seats to Imola Red, along with door cards etc, and change to the silver trim. I also plan on removing the back bench seat and installing the sports seats, making the X a four seat-er. Sooooo I’ll make you a deal. If you’re interested in the sport seats I have, and it makes sense for me to purchase the existing Imola Red interior I have a line on, I will give you mine. You’ll have to do two things though: Shipping from Ottawa, and a donation of 100.00 dollars to a local pet adoption agency.

Let me know!

P330

Not sure, about prior to Paramount, but yes, that is where I picked it up. I am sure that it was listed online prior to being at Paramount, as the aftermarket mounting for Sirius and the DINAN pipes were on one that sold just prior to me getting serious about buying a 4.8is, and was still in evidence when I picked it up at Paramount....

Doru

Sadly, no mechanical history. Not a typical purchase for me, but I rolled the dice on the X.....

Pierce330 09-24-2013 07:55 AM

Nice X nonetheless, hope you get the issues resolved...

panchosouth 09-24-2013 09:16 AM

Nothing a truckload of cash won't fix!

Pierce330 09-24-2013 09:19 AM

Yeah, that's the problem! lol...got to love these cars...
