Slick-

X5 finally made it to the dealer yesterday (Thursday) so should start getting some feed-back mid week next. The MAF was discussed at Svenson bros., and all hoses and vacuum lines inspected. However, everything is up for grabs at this point.

Hello Frank,
Attached is the booklet, “About Leather”. Please read through the section titled, “Complete
Leather Refinishing and Recoloring”. It will describe the steps for you.
If you a handy DIY person, going from black to red is doable.I need a sample of the red you
want. I don’t do the work, I just make the products and you do the work.
Thank you for your interest in the products.

Concur on your thoughts re -this thread-. Will see what floats to the top. Hopefully it won't be a turd.

Filter was changed......? Uh oh. I'm reeaallly pretty sure I changed the filter. Please Jebus. I don't have the maintenance log here with me.....Sh*t. Wouldn't that be a great big efffing he-haw.

i've followed this thread, and will agree with Slick... the stumble that you are describing is somewhat consistent with the airflow: the air filter, then the MAF, then air intake tubing, then the throttle body, check for vac leaks in the area, then move onto spark plugs, coils, oil in the spark plug holes... and then the complexity goes deeper... some of the first ones are easily mitigated but maybe not so easy when you are half a world away... you have a lot of trust in people handling your car in your absence... good luck!!!
pick up some non-US items for the car while overseas, like fire extinguisher, maybe light switch for rear fogs, TV tuner, if you want one... TV tuner is useless in the US for TV but could be handy for rear camera...

The latest-

I'm ready to …well I just don't know.
Hello Frank,

So we’ve had a chance to look at your vehicle, and here is the estimate:

Intermediate levers: $3542.98 (These are what control the valves opening and closing)

We have to start with the levers, if those do not work, you will need the 2 engine heads.
Cost for that is: $13411.14

TerminatorX5 10-03-2013 11:34 AM

so...

if those don't work, you will need 2 engine heads...

wait a sec... they just diagnosed $3500 worth of something, and IF it does not help???? excuse me!!!! did they properly diagnose the problem? with such an outcome, might as well start with small, tree shade troubleshooting... you still can come to the same conclusion as those guys, but at least you will eliminate all the small issues...

just put the car back into storage until you come back and do the work yourself... unless you grow money on the trees...

don't listen to me, i am a cheap skate!!!

Just got off the phone with the SM at Otto's BMW- They're going to go ahead with the work, and discuss with BMW Canada why this was not picked up in the PPI. I was going to source the parts from elsewhere but that would have impacted the warranty.
He was straight forward with me about the repair, he's only seen one instance where the heads needed to be done…So hopefully this is not number two. In any sense!
Money. Nope, not on trees, but I'm not nearly a good enough wrench to get this done on my own, nor do I have the time (my leaves are short at best), and I think I have pretty much exhausted the possibilities of what this might be ….And as the intermediate levers are a known source of problems in this engine……?

Ok- So one more time, as what I wrote 30 seconds ago got dumped in an internet fart.

T-X5; just spoke with service manager at Otto's. They're going ahead with the repair, and in the meantime I have asked him to discuss with BMW Canada and Miranello's BMW as to how this was missed during the PPI. The service log and all history that I have on my purchase including the PPI is there with the X, and they're going to review same.

I was going to source my parts but this would have created a warranty issue for me, so I'm going to go ahead with the dealership doing it all.

Money does not grow on trees, but I have limited skill in this area, and more importantly I have limited time when I'm on vacation. Hopefully this will be the fix. If not I'm going to own a very expensive lawn chair.

He was pretty straight forward about this repair, and said he has only seen one instance where this did not remedy the issue.

More as it comes available.
