Door Lock Issues
Two weeks ago I replaced my driver door latch actuator. In the process I had the door double lock on me and was not able to open the door from inside or out. In my brutish way I broke the door handle mechanism trying to open from the outside. Then I found a trick on here to pull the 20 and 24 fuses and like magic the door worked. The door was good except for the outside handle which was intermittent now.
Today I put in my new door handle. The installation went well. Then the door was not able to open again. So I did the fuse trick and it worked. No it seems like every other time the double lock doesn't disengage. I can open the door by cycling the locks. Has anyone else experienced this? It seems like an electrical gremlin. Any suggestions? Should I disconnect the battery and hold the cables together to drain all the capacitors? |
Ouch, no one can help. I fear an electrical gremlin. Today I am gonna take it all apart, AGAIN, and inspect the wiring harness to see if a cable is loose.

I think I fixed it. What most likely happened was when I removed the lock actuator it fell and pulled the wiring harness. This made a small intermittent short somewhere. I took it all apart and pushed all the wires and the harness in, no visible problems, and it works now.
Lesson to learn here is: When removing the lock actuator assembly, hold it when you unbolt it. |
