Removing spray paint from hood grills
1 Attachment(s)
I spray painted my hood vents and hood grills using Dupli-Color Silver and gave it about 2 to 3 coats about a month ago. Over the past week driving through heavy rain I noticed the paint chipping off both from the grills and the vents. So I wanted to know what would be the best way to remove the paint as I want to go back to the original black color. I got some fine sand paper but looks like it's going to require quite a bit of elbow grease and also might scratch the grills.
Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated. EDIT: Attached image of the embarrassing paint job. :( |
Lets see a pic of your nice silver work

Paint thinner.
This stuff is great too if you can find it All Purpose Chemical (Paint / Graffiti Remover) Soy Gel Paint Stripper QT |

Be sure anything you use will not damage the plastic. When I need to strip paint the first thing I try is lacquer thinner because it is fast and easy. I test it first to see if it will eat the base material. Most of the time there is no problem.

Thanks for your replies. I will try using a thinner in a small area and see how it works out.

I've had lots of experience with spray paint in the past ;p ...gasoline works best.. Most will shrivel off the rest just use a soft toothbrush.
I actually just did this to some Z71 badges that started to flake similarly.. 3 days in one of those disposable glad tupper ware things and barely had to put any elbow grease in... Factory chrome still on plastic. |
