2005 w/Blue Teeth -- no joy
Ok, so my 2005 X5 has the blue tooth module 84116946993 in it w/appropriate antenna, as described on many other BT threads. Just looked in the owner's manual package a no joy -- no phone manual. :(
I cannot get anything to show up for pairing, for putting the code in, or even for clearing the codes (the push and hold the 'face' button for 3 seconds, turn key to position 1 for 3 seconds, release button, etc., etc.). Pulled the module out and checked the connector (purple) and the antenna (purple), both are fully inserted. Main power connector w/all the wires is locked into place too. Fuses 7 and 73 are good. Any ideas? |
Try these links..
They have a few other videos about blue tooth.. Voice dialing etc Pairing: http://youtu.be/GabQvx2hfUg http://youtu.be/r4UDs4ukO-Q Youll also need to find the 4 digit passcode on your module.. |

Mine was doing exactly the same.. It paired once with my phone when I got the car, then refused to enter pairing mode thereafter for my wife's phone. Fitted a Xemex media unit instead of the CD changer anyway and it does the Bluetooth. No phone book integration, etc. but at least the wife can make calls in the car!

Since we can't see what you're doing, nor know if you completely understand the pairing process...it's crucial to explain your problem in detail so that its clear we understand what you're doing right or incorrectly. When its unclear to us reading your thread...you can sometimes get no response...to getting incorrect suggestions...to repeating what you already know & have done. For instance, the sentence in the quote above doesn't make clear if you're waiting for instructions from the BT module or your phone. Once the ignition is turned on correctly, and the button on the steering wheel is pressed...you have a short window to turn the BT on your PHONE on. You should be waiting to see a prompt from your PHONE to enter the PK code from your X5. I can't remember if its before or after the PK code request...but when the X & your phone is in pairing mode...you should see your X5's VIN appear as a selectable pairing device (on your PHONE). It will read "BMW_ _ _ _ _" (where the blank spaces = the last 5 digits of your VIN). Then from this list of suitable pairing devices on your PHONE...you select your X5. It only takes one time to pair your phone. From there on out...just make sure you have your PHONE's BT activated. Your X5 can't turn your phones BT on...so once paired and the X & your phone aren't pairing up...make sure your phone's BT is activated. Some smart phones will automatically turn BT off to save battery life. HINT: KL R & KL 15 = ignition positions 1 & 2 http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...0e83%20e85.jpg |
he may have the same unit I have which isn't a ULF, but a TCU which has the pair button in the armrest which you hold for a few seconds, turn the key to Pos 1, hold for a few more and then the dash says 'bluetooth pairing'. Mine only ever did it once for me :(

I have nav (w/DSP) in the 2005 (12/04 build) X5 4.4i. I tried pairing with my iPhone 4S as well as my wife's iPhone 5. To be perfectly clear, "Bluetooth Pairing" never shows up on the nav screen (it's supposed to show at the top, if the videos online are correct, right?). Phone is in BT mode. The last 5 of the vin never shows up in my phone. You mention pressing a button on the steering wheel. Are you referring to the "face" button or the "R/T" button? I tried both on separate tries with no luck. Does it matter if the BT is turned on the phone prior to hitting the steering wheel button? I figured as long as the BT from the phone was searching, it didn't matter if the X5 BT was activated first or second. I'll try getting in the X5 and turning the key on first next time. I do not have a pairing button in the center console (or anywhere else that I can see). And again, I don't have a phone manual with the X5 (bought used). Thanks for the help! I appreciate it. |
assuming that your unit is really an ULF (you did say that it has purple FAKRA connector for the BT antenna), in the facelifted cars there is no button in the center console anymore... the pairing is happening from the talking head button on the steering wheel - you turn the ignition on, press the talking head, hold until the nav screen shows the BT pairing words, put your phone into search mode, it finds the ULF, you let it pair, it asks for the code, you give it a code, it pairs, than asks if you want to connect to the ULF automatically from that point on...
Easier said then done!!! I have tried this procedure couple of dozen of times, was able to pull it off only once... finally, i got fed up with this, pulled out the INPA, connected to the BT unit, and told it to pair - and voila! it paired... granted, not everyone has INPA to do this, in this case, you just have to hope that you can catch that elusive moment from turning the ignition and pressing the talking head... i suspect, that the BT unit should be "just" awaken for this to happen, as if the BT is already awaken on the first unsuccessful attempt, the following attempts will not yield a good result... i realize that the formal instructions claim that the BT unit is in pairing mode for the first 2 minutes and no talking head needs to be pressed... but it means, that everytime i start the car, the BT module is in pairing mode, looking for a new mate... i do not see flashing LEDs next to the nav screen... just find the INPA, be done with it... |
Ditto what T5 said. It took multiple tries to get my Samsung SG2 paired. I gave up and went back the next day for one more try...and it paired. Keep trying using the instructions previously posted if you don't have INPA. :)
Here's a link to a 2005 downloadable (PDF) Bluetooth manual...if you don't have the BMW phone cradle installed...then you have to defer to the "face/talk" button on your MFL steering wheel: http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w...Vp6DggCo0z-4iQ Just to be sure...you do have either the premium pkg or the BMW assist pkg, right? http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...ist%20Info.jpg |
