2001 rear air suspension

I have a 2001 4.4 sport with the rear air suspension. Lately I've noticed that it seems a little rougher ride and even maybe bottoming out in the rear. It appears to be sitting level. I've never heard the air pump turn on, but assume it is just quiet because it wouldn't be level if there were no air pressure (I assume). Also, are any error messages displayed if the rear suspension is not working? How do I verify that the pump is actually working, or if I have a leak in the system?

I have had the air bladder leak and if yours is leaking you will notice the X5 sitting low in the morning. You can't hear the air pump working as its buried under the spare tire. Also you will get a fault light if your air suspension is not working properly. By the way I had both bladders replaced for around $850 at the dealer. I can't imagine what the rough ride could mean, are one of the rear shocks leaking?

If you wind up needing new air springs, I had good luck with the ones from Arnott Industries. I bought them off of eBay (about $197 for the rear pair, I think I paid). I have seen them advertising on this site.
