Battery could have been replaced with another BMW battery. Suggest you have it load tested at local auto parts store, usually free. That will tell you what shape it is in.

Battery usually have a date stamp or punch on it as to when it was sold or installed.

bigwave2255 12-09-2013 07:55 PM

yep true , unless its original equipment

So if it is working fine and you had it checked this past summer why do you want to know if it is the original battery?

Based on readings on here, its good to get a new battery after 8 years.

But its also good to know what im working with....as in the age of the battery.

BogWave, I too used to live about 20m of highway driving away from my office, BUT 2 months ago I moved to within 7 min drive of my office and now its all stop and go traffic.
So a combo of not getting enough drive time to recharge the batt, and some extreme cold temps killed my batt faster than I've ever seen before.

yep cold weather and short trips will kill your battery, maybe thats why i see people in cold climates having trickle chargers, makes sense

A battery going bad will show symptoms to warn you in time to replace it . You can unlock the OBC to monitor and load test it if it starts to act up. It's one of those that it is ok to put in the-- if it ain't broke don't fix it category if it won't worry you to do so.

Anyway.. What kind of battery to get?
OEM BMW or are there other alternatives?
