haha... i see a lot of jeep hate... which I don' t mind. I love the e53 (thats why i kept it). Its like that girlfriend that pisses you off but you keep going back to it.
Obviously its early... but for daily commute (hopefully no moose turns) the jeep is working out great. Everybody's experience turns out different... there are folks with a few e53 issues.. there are some with a ton. Similar with jeep. |
Cant do it until we close on the new house but I am ready to pull the trigger on the Grand Limited... I suppose I have an e53 that does nothing but break...

I have seen too many fatal crushes overseas with impacts at cumulative speeds no more than 30-35 MPH, and you have 4 corpses laying on the ground... brrr... scary... :yikes: where is that thread we saw recently when poster's wife walked away from the E53 on the picture - you could not even identify the car as an E53... |

I had my '02 Jeep GC on 2 wheels near rollover in '04. Driving down to a friends house on Big Pine Key, FL, Heading south on US 1 with 4 occupants, tightly packed luggage (below top of rear seat, load shift did not effect dynamics), and almost full tank of gas (fuel slosh did not effect dynamics). Doing 55 mph, a key deer ran across hwy (left to right), I swerved to the left and LIGHTLY applied brakes (into oncoming traffic lane, to go behind key deer), with approaching car coming at me I turned right and released the brake, the GCs left wheels grabbed and lifted the right wheels, steered left to catch the rollover, the INSTANT the right wheels touched down, the left wheels bit HARD and lifted the right wheels again (this time with right turn rotation)! More left steering input (all the way to the shoulder of the oncoming traffic lane) Had to pass the oncoming car on the LEFT to keep from rolling. This event made me realize the combination of long wheel/spring travel and underdamping (crap shocks) allowed the right suspension to store the compression energy then release it rapidly (causing the left wheels to bite and increase roll rate). This setup makes for good off-road capabilities, but treacherous on-road dynamics. Buyers need to honestly ask themselves, is added off-road capability worth the risk of death on-road? |
