E53 4.4l Missing Problem

Hey guys have done some searching, but can't find the answer. I have just picked up another 04 model e53 with only 80k's on the clock.
It has a good service record, but is misfiring on start up and at lower revs. I have ordered some plugs, but just seeing if anyone else has had any other experience.
Cheers
Ben

Plugs and coils seem to be a good place to start! coils if the problem still persists! (any OBD2 codes?? )
previous owner using premium fuel as well??

It has an N62...

Misfires on start up can be caused my an intermediate lever problem in the valvetronic system. Very expensive repair.

I have this problem with mine. Usually (if it's not too cold outside) a simple restart of the engine will solve the problem. When it's extremely cold outside I have to keep the RPM's around 2k for 60 seconds or so after starting and it prevents the misfire.

Also, the crankcase vent valves being faulty can cause this. They are a very cheap fix. 15 bucks or so a piece (there are 2, one in each valve cover) from ECS.

Give it a service, plugs, leads, coils, filters, oil and reset the ecu.

Yeah, i'll do all of the above. But I do remember my old one doing the same thing on start up and the crank case vent valves were the fix, so thanks for the reminder.

Now, when you say reset the ecu danielsan, what do you do for this?

great article. I thought this was my issue, but my mech says now way in hell.
I copied it to a work document to be safe.
as for the Crankcase Vent Valves, I'm just gonna replace mine for shits and giggles (seeing as how ECS tuning sells them for so cheap) and i have a feeling it may smooth my rough idle out I've not gotten ove ra cold winter. I'm sure the cold cold -34° C (-29° F) has made the rubber disc plasticky and has caused it to break finally.
Oh well, look slike a VERRRRRY easy fix :)

Disconnect the battery. Doing so will get the ecu to relearn variable values like fuel trim and spark advance. I would only bother with doing this if the service doesn't help.

I replaced the CCV's on mine last night. took a total of 20 minutes and I Noticed an instant smoothing of the idle. No more white smoke when taking off from a stop.

The real test will be when I start her this morning after sitting all night. Hoping this solves my cold start misfire problem.
