Door handle
 

OK, so I repaired the door handle about a year ago and clearly didn't do a good job because the end of the handle shown below keeps pulling out. So it needs to be put back in and rotated - is there a way of doing this without taking the door card off? Also, how could it rotate itself so that it can be pulled out? The only way that thing is coming out is because the stub isnt being pushed into locking port completely. Do you notice that it takes a lot of force to twist the handle into the correct position? That or, all the playing around with it had worn the tabs down, allowing just enough of a gap to let it slip past the locking tabs on the handle carrier.

You should be able to get it back on without removing the door car thought if I recall correctly. But if you need to have some moving room, then the right way would be to remove the door card. Only takes an extra 8 minutes, 10 if you are drunk.

The handle works fine but the end pulling out annoys the crap out of me, so I'll take the door card off and see. Is the "stub" easy to fix if it has work down? I'm flying a bit blind here.

Unfortunately no. If the nubs are worn down to the point it is slipping past the keyhole, you will need to replace the handle. But... I am guessing that it is because it is not fully engaged in the keyhole. When you put everything back together... did you notice the handle sitting funny? Like it matches up with the lines and such, but just not quite perfect? Or are the gaps around the handle just a tiny tiny tiny bit too far? If so, then it looks like it need to be pushed in farther.

Yes it didn't fit perfectly. I'll take the door card off and push it in harder and see what we can do. It was loose when it was put back together so much so that the rubber gasket thing has fallen off so I'll need to replace that too.

Having listened to what you've all said, my guess is the handle is stuffed. Thoughts?

The handle has to be vertical (pointing downward) and you rotate the other end up to meet the lock assembly.

I feel your frustration. This is poor design and unacceptable part fit and quality
That being said: I fixed mine with a small self taping counter sunk screw. Pre drill a small whole in the handle stem. Install the handle using the vertical/horizontal insert twist procedure. From the back insert the screw and be careful not to screw down to tight. Just snug enough to secure the stem in place. Mine has worked great. Next time I'll have to buy another handle, but for now it perfect.Good Luck. Yes, you do have to remove the door panel.
