No, I didn't have the special tool and, yes, I wish I did. You're a lot better off drawing the splined end through the hub than trying to beat it through the hub.

I love this homemade tool over paying $300 for the OEM tool. Just as a thought, I have been on other boards before where there was a section for tool rentals - people who bought the OEM tools cold recoup their cost by renting them out other forum members for low (but reasonable) prices - everybody wins. Not sure if you have that here, just a thought.
