Cd Changer replacement

I haven't been keeping up with the new tech. So What are the options to replace a 2005 X5 4.4 CD changer with a different music player. Not interested in pulling any cable to the front, or pulling the radio.

I have a GROM usb/bluetooth adapter instead of the original CD changer. My X also came with DSP so I had to also get a DSP converter. Everything works fine. I can stream music via bluetooth from my phone to the X, send and receive phone call through the X. Can rip MP3 files onto a Jump Drive and lsiten to them, don't have to burn CDs any longer.

Gosh burning cd's, haven't done that since 2006....

I know you're not interested in running a cable to the front but I did so when I installed my USA spec iPod interface, and I have it run into the armrest tray so I can play my iPod (or my iPhone for that matter) and control it from there, it came with a DSP adapter too so that works great. It doubles as a charger as well, and works with my iPhone 5 as I plugged my 30 pin to Lightning adapter in it (the cable is a 30 pin on the USA spec unit) The actual interface itself is right under my front seat, cost me $120 with coupon from Crutchfield.

Ditto. I also have the GROM for a few months now (also replacing my MP3 CD changer) and loves it. I don't currently have the bluetooth module, but is considering it.

How/where did you place the bluetooth module? I would assume that you have to route the MIC up front somehow? Where did you end up putting the MIC?

I have one of those too... i only bought the module that plays MP3 using USB stick as i had bluetooth in the car already. I wanted the stock look and being able to control music with my car stereo and my steering wheel buttons..Really happy with it so far...

I tried using the mic that was built into the overhead console, bu that didn't work, so I used the mic that came with the bluetooth. Had to get a micro stereo extension cable since the lead wasn't long enough to go from the rear view mirror back to the unit in the rear cubby where I have the Grom unit. I just ran the cable down the A pillar and then underneath the plastic door sills to the back.

What do you want to be able to do when you have updated the "music player"?

there was an SD card player that would plug in place of the CD changer... I posted about it a while ago, and it was floating on the forums for a while... no wires, nothing - just 6 playlists/directories on your SD card, the reader, and that's it... about $300 though... a bitt too much, if you ask me... I need to dig around to find the name for it...

That is what I was wondering...

QwkAg: if your CD player is still working, that is the best sound producer one can have in a car, imo.

(Well, maybe full tilt downloads on a stick are close, but CDs are miles ahead of mp3 and their ilk, imo.)

You were 'in the biz'...why would you want iTunes or some such?

This is what I wanted to take a look at. Hope you find it.
