What maintenance has been done recently? What year X5 do you have? Mileage of car? Age of air filter, oil filter, last oil service? Do you indeed have LL04 rated oil in the sump? Has your breather (loo roll) been serviced or (better) converted to the vortex type?
Do you know what fault codes your car presently has logged?

Hi the smoke is left front door sill any ideas what it can be thanks

Remember that an X5 (E53) diesel has an on-board Webasto engine pre-heater (diesel powered) that naturally has a small exhaust system. The exhaust itself exits under the sill (rocker panel) near the front left door. I've seen other colleagues get REALLY worried in winter / cold until they are reminded of this.

Apologise if I mistaken you for someone else!Maybe I been answering too many threads on this smoke issue and already given all the possible answers!

When you do open a thread with a problem .as in your case ,its always useful to state the model year and engine and mileage and servicing history of your car, none of which you provided!
Going on topic again, you do have all the answers here ,too!Check quicksilver link and especially Gregorys last post, which suggests its the webasto heater, which seems to be the case as your previous post says its from front passenger side of the car ,where you do have a mini exhaust, for the webasto heater!
Good luck:thumbup:
