First time dealing with CPT sensor. Which one, and where is it.

Hi all.

I got an SES today while driving around the city all morning. This is the second time in 2 years that this came up. I have not scanned with INPA yet. Just used my quick and dirty OBD2 cheapo scanner that I keep in the glove box.

So I have this.
P0021 - Intake (A) Camshaft Position timing - over - advanced (Bank 2)
P0355 - Camshaft Position sensor A circuit (bank 2)

I forget which is bank 1 and 2 on these cars.

Also, where the hell is this thing located. I have never had to deal with one on any of my previous BMWs.

Here is a realoem link.
RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.8is Sensors

Thanks in advance guys. Hope to place the order tomorrow.

Bank one is normally where number 1 thru 4 spark plugs are located and bank two is where number 5 thru 8 spark plugs are located.

Ok so bank 1 is the pass side. Bank 2 is the Drivers. Thank you TTGTR.

Now, realoem shows 3 of these on the engine. Does anyone know which is the intake side.

Ok so figured it out and fixed the problem.

Intake side is bank 2, which is driver side. Sensor is at top read of valve cover, plugs into the intake manifold area. The plug was lose. As soon as I pulled on it, it fell off. Put it back on with solid click. Hope no more issues. Love free fixes.

Mine is N62 as well. Except 4.8. Yea we have 4, but one is the intake side, and it has the wire attached to it. Thats the one on the bank2, drivers side. Mine was plugged in, but not fully. Thats why i guess i got that random code.
