An A/C compressor is an A/C compressor. As long as it has a warranty go for it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, it's not like you're buying a cylinder head or connecting rods. All these remanufactured compressors are made in the same place anyway.

I have the same car as Brandon002, and unfortunately my mechanic informs me it needs a new AC compressor. He also said there doesn't appear to be an alternative to the dealer version (for $1350) - there isn't an aftermarket one, but he's continuing to look in case one becomes available.

I don't doubt anything he says - he's very good and knows these cars inside out - but I'm still trying to search on my own. It looks like this is the right part, and it would explain why he can't find a Denso replacement. Can anyone confirm this, please?

64526917864 is the BMW number.

In my 1998 528i, the compressor is made by DENSO.

If you can get DENSO, then it is a good brand.
- Evac ($30 at local shop)
- Replace the compressor, incl. all O-rings
- Vacuum + recharge ($70 at local shop)

So the cost will be:
- DENSO compressor, your labor
- Labor from local shop = $100.
