Is something wrong with my wheels? (pics)
 

It's hard to tell from the photos but I noticed that the rear wheels sticking out as indicated by the red lines and arrows. Is this normal or does it need an immediate attention or repair?

I would check the alignment / rear suspension parts to be sure none aren't overly worn and causing excessive camber in the rear.

Mine has the same issue and so do many I see on the road.

You can get adjustable bushings to dial out some of the negative camber, but like someone mentioned before get the alignment verified. Tires should not be 90 degree vertical for an IRS (Independent Rear Suspension).

When X5 wheels are properly aligned some negative camber is visible. It is hard to tell even in person if the alignment is out unless it is to an extreme and close to impossible in a picture. If your X has not been aligned in a year or so I suggest getting it done. If there is something wrong it is likely they will find it or not be able to get it within specs. I would also check to see if tire wear is fairly even from inside to outside. That can be an indication of out of alignment though not necessarily camber.

It may be time to have the alignment & rear susp. components checked out.

I have the same problem with my e53 also.

Drives side I can dial in to -0.5 camber with .1 tow
Passengers side can only get to -1.8 camber with .1 tow

I have already replaced the lower ball joint and will be replacing the wishbone once it comes in.

*HOPEFULLY* that can get me where I want to go.

bmw spec is -1.5 camber ( I think that is called the ultimate driving experience )

Looks normal for that size. An alignment check would be good for it.

.1 toe or .01 toe?

if .1 toe, you'll shred your rear tires up on the inside, way too much. Dial it out, if .01 that is perfectly fine.

Let us know if the wishbone solves the problem, mine rear right is at -2.9 right now, toe is at zero, left side is -1.8, toe is zero. I have to start working on refreshing the rear suspension later this year.

Imo, it is very difficult for any of us to 'diagnose' the need for alignment from the OP's pics...that shot looks like any/every X5 on the planet, from the rear, and similar to 99% of any brand of AWD SUV.

If there are indications of the need for an alignment, go get one. Don't know that any of us, even the mavens here, could say one 'needed' it or not, or that 'something' is wrong with suspension, bushings, et al, based on that photo & appearance.
