Tolerances on the location of the hub bolt holes and possible change in ride height vs worn struts can change the current wheel alignment.

Firestone will do a wheel alignment for $80 w/ a lifetime warranty...at those prices it couldn't hurt just for the sake of having it checked anyways. This is irrelevant for Helmuth, but point being.

Helmuth, that's absurd what they're asking. I paid $950 US for my coilovers and about $1000 for a 20 piece suspension kit from www.fcpgroton.com and then a shop could get all this done in a day. It's not rocket science doing this stuff, so qassuming your $4000 quote is in US dollars, what they're asking is just complete robbery.

Ah ok. If you are keeping the rear air suspension then the easiest thing to do is purchase the adjustable rear links that connect the sensor to the lower swing arm. There's a few websites now selling them as you can adjust the link then to trick the sensor into thinking the X is sat to high and thus the system will reduce the air in the rear and therefore drop the rear. This will still allow the rear to be self levelling. You may need to disconnect the fronts using this method and place the leveller to the correct point as the rear to make it think it is sat level.

PLZ keep us updated with this. very interested in this. I ordered myself the bmw scanner 1.4.0 in hopes of just deleting the self level suspension all together.

The guy I mentioned earlier said he'd make me a set of these links from parts he got at his local Ace Hardware and then I need some software so everything would still work. Does that sound right? I'd think of the arms were adjustable enough that whatever software he's referring to wouldn't be needed.

would this trick work with the abs sensors? this would definitely be helpful any suggestions on where to get the adjustable rear links?

a set of adjustable control arms to correct camber or adjustable rear links for the sensors?? I don't think its going to need "new" software but maybe some coding to the current software. who knows though I'm learning every step go the way.

Yup that's the sort of thing I was talking about for the rear. If you plan to just use lowering springs etc for the front then these are the way to sort the rears.

As for the scanner software. Yes it will be used to code out the check control BUT that gets overriden if for example the system thinks the rear is completely out if line with the fronts.

I've gone complete coilovers front/rear but when I loaded up the X with laminate flooring and the rear dropped significantly the message still can up on the dash as it thought the rear had completely been shot.

Shouldn't need to worry about ABS sensors as they are seperate and not affected by this.
