dash mat

I suppose it could be called the lazy way out, but almost all of my vehicles have a 'dash mat' to protect the dash from cracking and also to make driving easier (no glare).
With killer UV rays and very hot summers over here, it's only a matter of time before your dash is toast unless you use one of those horrid reflector thingies on your windscreen or have a dash mat. Simply fixed with some velcro (hook and loop) fasteners, so easy to remove and vacuum, plus it looks good too.

Oh the lucky WA folk, still allowed to own and use an RD :)
The NSW Police wanted mine, and they handed me a $1430 fine and 10 demerit points for the privilege.

Honestly, i don't find any glare for the dash of the X5, mostly because of the Matt Finish and texture i guess.

Ouch! 10 demerits and a big fine - that's criminal! I always though the cops in NSW looked a bit like Gestapo in their leather jackets...
Just a matter of time for us I think... I've got laser jammers in the SRT-8 (as well as a good RD), but I think they're being banned soon over here. Bloody fun police - over them I can assure you my friend. Should adopt the European (some countries) method and limit the speed according to the design/engineering of the vehicle, rather than bring everything down to the lowest common denominator.
Seriously though - when I first bought my E53 I felt naked without the dash mat and despite the matt finish, I still found it to be a bit reflective at certain times of the day. My pizza box doesn't slide off anymore either...haha!
