STILL WAITING BMWNA !
My wife and I are about to take a 10 hour road trip and I'm RENTING A DAMN CAR so that I have the protection of AIR BAG for the passenger side
DAMN BMW, when will you get your S**T together and fix these cars. I am getting really pissed. I guess they just don't care. Maybe I'll send them the bill for the rental....(yeah, good luck with that) |
Just have the wife sit in the back seat and drive the BM Trouble U.

Daka no offense but posing a new thread complaining about it once a week doesn't make BMWNA care any extra about a recall on a 10+ year old bimmer.
You'd be better luck writing once a week to BMWNA but don't expect them to care too much, they can't make the parts appear. |
I haven't even called the local dealers about it. Guess I'm waiting til hell freezes over or Daka gets some satisfaction before I put any effort toward this - but then the CEO rides in the passenger seat about as often as Anna Kournikova ....
|
I HAVE called to no avail....."oh the parts will be available very soon...."
And, I am hoping that someone from NA gets these messages...and realizes that we are vocal about this mess and does something about it GM is hopefully finding out about their mess with recall, I've heard sales are off somewhat, people get pissed As far as my wife riding in the back seat......good luck.... |
start a movement
I think I am more fatalistic about these things, or maybe I am more tolerant of abuse.... I replaced my seat sensor and have moved on.
The best thing you could do would be to start a movement for BMW owners to register every safety related failure with the NHTSB. Consumers are allowed to submit reports themselves - Reports should be limited to a factual history and not flames if you want them to be considered seriously. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/Vehicl...nt/index.xhtml |
Just an FYI...the default for the SRS/MRS system is that ALL airbags deploy even when they aren't supposed to.
So the thing to do if your front passenger occupancy mat sensor is the reason for the light in the headliner being illuminated...always have the passenger in that seat where their seat belt. That way, if you are involved in an accident...the seat belt will keep the person in place...because the air bags may deploy when in normal circumstances they would not. See the info below as to how the dual stage SRS/MRS is designed to react when passengers are belted and the bags deploy...or if they aren't belted: "normal response range" would be for the front pass air bag NOT to deploy if no one is sitting in the seat...but if the air bag light is on...then the bag may deploy when it's not supposed to. BMW designed the system to default to the side of safety vs the liability of a bag NOT deploying when it should have...and an occupant is injured/maimed/fatally wounded: http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...%20Warning.jpg (take note of text highlighted in the green & yellow in image below...it explains again, that the default is for the bags to DEPLOY...even when they aren't supposed to when the SRS/MRS (supplemental restraint system/multiple restraint system) light is illuminated) http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...lluminated.jpg |

Qsilver7
Thanks for the info, I just don't feel right about a road trip with the "possibility" of a fault in the Air Bag system. We have a reservation for a rental full size car for the trip. Thanks all... Monday another e-mail and call to NA |
I totally understand...good luck w/BMW NA...lots of us are waiting. I have my recall notice at the ready...but I do have the good fortune that my warning light isn't illuminated.
