Throttle remapping question
Anyone have any experience with an aftermarket throttle response device?
I know of some muscle cars owners that are pleased with the results. I know of no one with a BMW going that route. The one I have been reading about is designed to work on an E53 and has several performance settings as well as economy options. All changes can be made on the fly. Thoughts? |
Personally I'd rather have an ECU tune such as a Shark Injector for my engine that is tuned for 93 octane fuel that I use as opposed to somthing like the Sprint Throttle Booster which is a drive by wire throttle reducer.
Either way at $300 or so for something that gives only a couple ponies its steep. |
Sprint Booster is supposed to increase response.
I would want smoother "tip in". |
bcredliner, i have the one you are talking about.
Pedalbox? Works amazing, and in all seriousness makes the car pull harder and no delay at smash the pedal launches. Changes midrange dyanmics as well, versus it dropping another gear in manual mode, it stays in the same one and more usable midrange torque. |
I have all Dinan mods except supercharger and Dinan engine and transmission software that gets the most out of mods so Shark Injector wouldn't work for me.
I have read Sprint Booster info. It has the performance options but no economy versions and is more expensive than the one I am leaning toward. Sprint booster is an easier install and less intrusive. I don't know if it is called Pedalbox. It is on the Bimmian website and they don't mention a brand name. The link follows: Throttle Remapper For E53 - BMW X5 SAV - 2000-2006 From bimmian.com |
Dont know about that one.
I wanted a sprintbooster and have tried it in a buddies X. But it came down to the one i got is cheaper with alot more settings. Its also TUV approved and they make it in germany. Not sure if it means much, but i did read reviews/watch vids and i would buy it for every other car i have in the future. |
I don't like that Bimmian one bc its plugged into the OBDII port all the time,
I was hoping to get a Shark Injector tune at Bimmerfest for 93 octane which would utilize my AFE intake better, we'll see. |
I am concerned about it plugging into the port also. Will have to know why before I would make the purchase.
Based on what I have read about the Shark Injector it would be a good route for you to go. Much more economical than custom tuning and you can modify it to any other mods you decide to do in the future. I will google Pedalbox. |
I took a look at Pedalbox. It seems to be the best of the options. Easy install, several programs and can customize a program. It appears they ship a version specific to what vehicle, model and engine and nothing going into the port.
Waiting on Dinan input to find out if it will improve on what they did in the software I already have. |
I wasnt much of a believer in sprintbooster or this until i tried the SB on my own when he transferred it over from his car..
And the pedalbox i like even better. If your going to go with that let me know theres a site you can order it cheaper off of and search around for the promo code. |
4.8isX5, please let me know the website. I may be interested. I had my ecu remapped but like everyone with power, I want more and I wonder if this flash will do it?
apparently my 4.4 is more powerful than a 4.8iS based on 93 octane. I had the option for a 94+ octane version but only 1 place sells that fuel around here and its Husky which uses Ethanol blend. I will not run that. |
The following explains the Shark Injector: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-N-rMx0YwQ
It is available at Turner Motor Sports website. |
Shark Injector is little more popular with the ZHP and E46/M54 crowd, but I've had good luck in past with a dedicated 93 octane tune for NA motors, so I wouldn't hesitate to run it.
|
I have meth injection to up the octane and so the nitrous doesn't cause it to run lean. The 93 octane tune would increase the timing. Bozo no no for me.
I am interested in the throttle remap only if it will result in a curve that gets to 100% throttle faster. My goal is to launch harder and sooner. |
It will do that.
|
Just spoke with Dinan Tech about throttle remapping. The Dinan software I have does change the throttle response somewhat but it was not maximized. He cautioned there is a point where it is too responsive for some on the street. He said adding a remapping device with not harm the Dinan software. At this point I intend to go forward once I determine what adjustable on the fly unit I like the best.
Great input, thanks. |
so does this work on NA engines, or just turbo'd?

FYI- There is a big contingent that claims they are worthless. I have read as many as I could stand to read. My take is the non-believers don't understand what they do. |
Not worthless at all, and yes dinan most likely did not map your throttle that way since maximizing it would not be the best all the time either.
I usually keep mine in sport and then +2. Or Sport+ (race) and +1. Compared to it off and even just sport there is a huuuuuuuge diff. Even in economy mode and -3 it is more resp then stock. What ive noticed when i am messing with cars is it definetly does give you great advantage cause your pedal is so much more responsive when your on it or on/off gas like in and then out of a corner, it gives great advantage cause even when they other person gets on it, their response nowhere near the same. |

any more update on the pedalbox? I have one locally I can grab for $150 CAD (approx $100 USD now). worth it?
|
Still running mine daily, my personal sweetspot is right on sport mode without tweaking it up or down.

Throttle is more sensitive. I know this device will not add more "power" to the car therefore make it accelerate faster but it gives a sensation of doing something faster as the throttle is more sensitive. My 850 had sensitive throttle from the factory and there so many complaints to BMW they made a Sensitive Throttle chip and it reduces the on/off feeling you got with the gas pedal. I bought the chip and it was nice but you feel like you loose a bit of sportiness when you have a less sensitive throttle (neck snap not as big) feeling. Hence why i bought another set of chips that give even more sensitive throttle and more power apparently. Definitely a sportier feel if nothing else. These Wokke chips are famous in the e31/32 world. I'm assuming this PB does the same thing and makes the throttle more sensitive where it feels of an instant reaction by engine instead of slowly getting to its point... Can someone with a PB confirm if I'm correct (or if you can even see my logic)? |
Between I am OK with how it is and the cost, I never made the purchase.
|
k, so i bought and installed it. its a nice option to play with for sure. for$140CAD I didn't think it would be too bad if I didn't like it, and I could always resell it at that price anyhow

K just an update about the PedalBox... I have to say it's convenient when I wear different shoes. Some of my shoes have thicker soles than others so my driving can be faster acceleration than other times when I wear skinny sole shows, so to fix that this pedalbox adjusts the accel curve depending on the mode I select. Overall it's not worth the money but I've also spent $140 on wayyyyyyyy worse things (like just gambling).
