Any RealOEM gurus in the house
Maybe it's the morning coffee, but can someone confirm if I'm on the right page
I want to replace all the screws that hold the front engine splash shield together Was underneath last weekend and between mechanicals and body shop last fall, I'm got a hodegepodge or screws with non holding the Air Ducts. I'll have to grab a look at it again, or maybe ones if it's screws or blind rivets holding the bottom of the air duct where it meets the engine splash shield. RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i Air duct Otherwise, I've got QTY 2 each of 13/14 and QTY 10 holding the front clip -- Item # 5 - Part 07119901311. Does this look about right |
You're at the right section. There're 3 different types of nuts/screws for that radiator air duct. #5, #13 and #14.

You see where 10 and 5 meet on the left side of the pic.
The wife has the car and has gone to work. There is nary a screw in that area/ I don't think it's blind rivets just due to how the splash shield needs to mount on/off that thing. I'm thinking it's all the #5 screws - with the right clip. Maybe the clip is not showing on this diagram for whatever reason (front clip screws are 8mm and the 2 in the rear, are 10mm). That I do recall |

Then for the larger #8 "hex head screw"...the QTY column lists four of them and they are used on the brake ducts (#6 & #7)...with both of those ducts using two #8s respectively...and probably in conjunction with the #9 (expanding nut) since the QTY column list four of them as well: |
QTY 10 was just a number I ran off in my head - recalling I removed about 6 on the front of it, and there was 2 on each side where it was missing (the side that connects to the duct). I do not recall if the the 2 on each side was threaded uptop for a screw or not...
Hence the post. I'm not 100% sure the diagram/parts on the RealOEM is accurate, even though in theory in should be.. |
Sometimes the part database can be slightly off...especially when a single illustration is used for multiple models. :)
So, are there sheet metal screws (#5s) that run along the front edge of #12...and not just the two on each side that appears to be the way it's illustrated in the diagram? |
Well, considering the hodgepodge of screws I observed.....all I recall was two 10MM on the rear, all Missing on the 2 per each side on the duct, and the front clips were a 8MM head but I'm pretty sure half of them were the wrong pitch.
I can't recall if it was a Hex head with a fat washer and whether it was a fine pitch or not... |
I was close on memory.
For the X5 Wikipedia It's 9 total on the 8mm. 5 on the Front clip. 2 on each side. |
I had the same dilemma as all these screws were missing on my X5 too (About 4 screws holding the whole thing on). Those sheet metal screws don't attach into plastic - they always have a matching metal clip. If you look at the drawings posted above, you can see that Screw #13 fits into clip #14. Just so you know - those are bigger than the #5 screw and you can't interchange them (I tried...).
The front edge of part #12 has 5 of screws #5 along with 3 machine screws (10 mm socket, so probably M6 that fits into taped holes in the sub frame) and each side of #12 needs two of the #5 screws. The dilemma is that the drawing doesn't show the clip that matches the #5 screws. If you have a hodge-podge of screws, you probably also have a hodge-podge of clips (or the clips are missing...). I ended up getting the parts counter guy to figure it out - they have those clips in bins and he poked around until he found some that fit that #5 screw.... |
sorry to dig this one up, but im having the same problem , I cannot fathom out what screws I need, ( currently not got any, so will need them all) ive been to local dealer , and even he cannot fathom it out , ?
https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...mm-screws.html ive looked at this picture, and checked out realoem , but both don't correspond as I said even the dealers is confused :) so far I got , 5 clips on the front of the shield (number14) with, 5 number 08's (blue) 3 of number 16 (purple) 4 of number 5 (red) and for the yellow ones I got 4 number9 and 4 number 8 wow that was hard, can any one verify this, so I know what exactly im going to buy?? cheers steve (confused) |
