Thanks for the compliment. That is the actual chrome. The lenses are still amber. I would also put my vote in for doing angel eyes. You have already done the hard part. I would have been happy with just the clear look, the angel eyes are the BONUS.

taking out the the waffles (low beam and high beam) will affect your beam pattern ALOT...
the newer xenons and highbeam housings on 04+ series have a special housing that does the job without the waffles
but pre03 needs those waffle pieces to focus the xenons onto the correct place...
taking out the waffles will affect the low beams by releasing too much light around rather than focusing it to the road, so it drops performance. same goes to the high beam...
im getting my old headlights today for my sister and selling my angeleye headlight housing....anyone interested?

will be posted in SAV items for sale...thanks!

If you talk on this you should try and at least get your facts correct.

1st there is no lense in front of the pre03 Xenon projector low beam, if u notice the hole in the middle  The plastic piece on top 1/2 of the bulb prevents the light from hitting oncoming traffic (blinding effect)

2nd on the high beams the BULBS on the 03+ are the same as the BULBS on the pre03 ((EXPOSED)) :wow: , there is no optical coating on the lense in front of the high beams and there are slight directionals on it (prisms). The light loss is minimal on high beam in fact it will be more directed without the light diffuser in front.

Don't make a comment unless u know what your talking about.

i think that that small piece of plastic does have alittle to do with controling where the light it put onthe floor. With the e36 headlights taking out the lense would expand the width of the light put on the floor, making it seem a bit dimmer i guess....

again, i am probally wrong about x5s

gregwx5 01-14-2006 01:01 AM

hey guys,
how did you manage to get to the amber cover inside..and could i do this on an 03?

e36 01-14-2006 01:25 PM

i dont think u can do it on a 03 b.c factory used different silicon to seal the headlights up that wont melt.

To get the ambe corners out you just gotta open the headlights up and take them out.

How can you drop the performance of a headlight by removing an interfering object ?

The lens around the projector is to stop light annoying oncoming traffic. The lens for the High Beam is to further distribute your light spread. This decreases the performance of your light but increases your spread. By removing the lens you are focusing your beam more and increasing its performance ( amount of light output) by removing the interference.
