Both 12V sockets in the "boot" should also stay on constantly. This is what I use to trickle charge my car when needed.

No worries...I know whatcha mean ;) Boot, trunk, hatch...all the same to me. Just FYI...every 12V sockets on the X5 are live and never shut off. The only exception, if you count it, is the flashlight socket in the glove box, which shut off with the ignition.
