12V outlet, Off when car off?
Hey guys,
Is there any way to code out/disable 12V power sources when the car is off? For instance; If I have a car charger plugged into the rear middle cigarette lighter/outlet, and I turn the car off with both the phone and charger plugged in, I dont want to the battery to drain so I would want no power going to that outlet, Any way to accomplish this? Thx |
I was looking for the same thing a while back and there is no option to code it that way. The option you have is to get a rely and wire it to a switched 12V somewhere under the dash on in the electrical box. I have done this for the angeleyes, it's doable if you really need that feature.

After you turn off the car the front cig lighter outlet turns off after 16 min never checked the back one but suspect it does the same. The one under the glove box and the one in the back stay live with the key off..

2001 the reason i know is i have a solar charger for when car is in storage and have to use the outlet below the glovebox or else it turns off.

I have 2004 and my X also stays on. No programming to change this. Just add relay to constant power with ignition trigger if you want cig power off.

Just yesterday, i found the flashlight plug in glove box. I hard wired a dual cigarette outlet to it. now it goes off when ignition is off. I didn't want want my gps and car dvr on the whole time.
For more power requirements, i will add a relay that will supply higher needs, but this will get its source from the battery with the signal coming from that same flashlight plug. |

By default is the 12v outlet in the boot a stay alive outlet? (kinda of a long story-but think the mystery gps tracker i have in my car and cant find maybe wired to this power source but not sure the electricians would have disabled the sockets altogether at rear and not told previous owner hmmm-bloody parasitic drain!) |
Both 12V sockets in the "boot" should also stay on constantly. This is what I use to trickle charge my car when needed.

I know this may seem like a simple answer to the question
but why not unplug devices plugged into cigarette lighter/outlets. I've left my devices plugged in all night with no problem at all. OTOH Our 5 series cigarette lighter/outlets go off with the key and don't finish a charge if we are out of the vehicle. For me that is very inconvenient. |
