NO, Kevinkay's photo is of the rear, 04, X5, 3.0

One on each side, can be seen looking from under - ahead of the bumper, at the last rubber attachment, just before the tail pipe

yeah could be.. never noticed his model of x5 , my bad.

Sorry, I mistyped the year - I hit "6" instead of 4. (BTW - I6 stands for "inline 6" - that is what your 3 litre is).

Anyway, I was working from gut feel of what muffler box it appeared to be, since there was no description in the OP or since.
