Seats not moving when unlocking

OK, I've asked this question in the past ( in this thread) , and I got some good answers, but never got to really figure out what to do about it.

My X5 has the following issue:

On my driver's seat, memory works OK, I have adjusted it to two different positions (one for me, one for my wife), and I can recall them by pressing the "1" or "2" buttons. However, the seat doesn't move to those predefined positions, when I unlock the car with our two keys. The keys are obviously programmed to the car, since they unlock all the doors and trunk, and they disable the after-market alarm, but they do not move the seat to the predefined positions.

What I am looking for, are things to check, to make that happen. I have access to the usual program suite, from George in Romania, and the proper cable, so no issues there. But I have no idea what I should be looking for, either in the car settings or the car components.

One more piece of info, which shouldn't play a role, is that the car is equipped with an after-market radio, which has its own K-bus box (I think that's the proper terminology). That appears to be working OK, the cruise control and other buttons on the steering wheel function fine.

Any help would be appreciated, since this, together with faulty mirrors and a non-working A/C fan (I can live without that, winter is coming, I'll fix it next spring) are the only things that bother me on the car. Oh yes, in addition to the slow-filling problem, but I can live with that too.

Thanks guys!

memory units or electric motor broken.....

How can it be the electric motors being broken? I mean the seat moves to the predefined positions, when pressing buttons "1" or "2". It's just that it doesn't move when unlocking with the remote on the keys.

someone here had a thread about this i believe ...maybe Slick?..

steering wheel tilt upon entry - EINSTIEGSHILFE_HOEHE - activ
steering wheel extend upon entry - EINSTIEGSHILFE_LAENGE - activ
drivers seat into position upon entry - AUT_SITZVERSTELLUNG - activ

use NCS Expert to modify these entries in the seat module... i think it was in the seat module.. could be in GM... pull all modules, see which one has these entries, and see what they are set to right now...

I was just getting into these options myself, not sure how to get to it, but it is defiantly an option. I had the dealer set it up when I bought the car. Curious you mention the radio, because I think that "memory" function also sets the radio to pre-set (key 1, key 2) preset radio stations.

Do you know about Final stage resistor, do a search, could be your fan issue. No a/c fan could mean No heat fan!!!!

I.9 Car Memory - Seat/mirror memory
Seat position

The seat is moved to the stored position when the vehicle is unlocked using the key with remote control or after the driver's door is opened. A key-specific seat adjustment is not possible if "not active" is selected.
On E38, E39 and E53 vehicles, not only the seat but also the mirrors and the steering column (if the latter can be electrically adjusted) change their positions.
On E46 vehicles, the mirrors are adjusted on vehicles from production period 09/99 (Model Year 00).

oh, and as a part of the key programming, there is also a screen in the NCS where you can flag individual keys to "act" on the programming. In other words, you set the programming to do the movement "activ", and then tell the keys to use (or not to use) the movement... gee... i am getting confused here trying to explain it... lol

first, the module needs to be "able" to move the seat and the steering wheel

then, each key needs to be "told" to move or not to move the seat and the wheel

if the module is not setup to move the seat and the wheel, the keys will not react to the key settings...

hopefully it makes sense...

Darn, I am pissed!

My Macbook disk went south this afternoon, so now I have to get another disk and install everything before I can investigate your suggestions.

Tnx guys, I'll return here when the computer is ready.

Just connect your cloned backup drive and restart your Mac.
Run your Mac that way until you get a new drive. You did
clone an external drive didn't you?......:D

I wish! Unfortunately, since the MacBook is not my primary computer, I haven't! I do have a bootable disk from my iMac, but I doubt if it can be of use. I guess I need to get a new disk and start from scratch. I hope that at least my USB stick, where the Maverick installation is saved (latest Apple OS) will be OK.
