E53 Resonator delete

Hey guys ,
Stupid question.. When people delete the resonator in the 3.0 vehicles where is it exactly ? Like what's the location of the resonator that people normally delete to give more of a deep sound to my remus exhaust (pictures preferred ).. And how will it affect my mpg

Go to the midline of either side of your X5, right at the line where the B-pillars and doors meet.

Get under your X5 at this spot, in the middle of the X5 in the big heatshielded tunnel area is approx a 26" long big honking muffler looking contraption. That's the resonator.

It would need to be cut out, then pipe extensions and an X pipe welded in place.

This is how it looks cut out (4.4 shown, similar for 3.0)

Get a Flowmaster or Magnaflow 2.25" Xpipe to put in its place and let the exhaust shop install the extensions to meet the exhaust flanges.

I thought that was the catback or am I wrong ? Would deleting that screw me up for inspection?

No the cats are ahead of the resonator.

From headlight to rear bumper it goes:

catalytic converters ---- resonator ---- mufflers

The resonator is just for tone/sound purposes so deleting it will not cause more emissions.

Pics of the Remus man how do you like it?

My remus exhaust looks beautiful, it feels amazing. on the highway it does proves it self in combination with my intake. Its great.. But for some reason its as loud as i would like it.. So this is where the thought of deleting that resonator comes in
Umm do you happen to have pictures of what the cat would look like then so i can just understand these components properly before i start cutting.

In the first pic, the big ass looking silver muffler, thats the resonator.

Alright guess that shit has to go, resonator is a no no. As long as i will pass inspection im fine. How much do those magnaflow x pipes go for btw. I see some for 100 Any ideas how it will affect mpg if i drive the same?

Shouldn't make it any worse unless you're stomping the pedal more, and yes the Magnaflows go for about $100 I've seen

Okay, And it just gets welded on right

Yes, you will need an extension welded as well. Any competent muffler shop should be able to cut out resonator and fit it properly.

And where you're located I suspect you have your pick of muffler shops
