Fixed P1093

Was getting a P1093 error code if you used a generic IBD II code reader or

E4/B1 Oxygen Sensor controller bank 2, deviation too great, deviation rich.

EC/B2 Triming, oxygen sensor controller, bank 2 deviation too great in rich range if you used specific BMW scanning software. In this case I used BMW Scanner 1.4.

Replaced the 02 pre cat sensor for bank 2 and when I finally got to test it, after 2 miles on the expressway, SES pop it. Used the bluetooth scanner that I keep in the X and scanned it for trouble codes.

Only code to pop up was p1093. So before throwing more parts at it I did an internet search (thanks Al Gore for creating the internet). The E46 fanatic forum has a lot more DIYers then this website and one owner finally fixed his P1093 code by replacing the ICV (Idle Control Valve).

My BM Trouble U didn't throw any codes when it was idling but the moment I got on the expressway bam SES lite up.. I have replaced an ICV on my E34 because of a rough idle but the idle on the X was rock steady. So i took out the ICV and did the check with shaking it to see if the little plunger or valve would move back in forth. Nothing na da. Brought another ICV which the valve moved freely and installed it. X started up fine and the idle is still rock steady.

Hopefully my E4/B1 Oxygen Sensor controller bank 2, deviation too great, deviation richm, EC/B2 Triming, oxygen sensor controller, bank 2 deviation too great in rich range will be fixed.

So the Idle Control Valve was the problem for the 02 sensor SES that pops up at highway speeds?

German logic strikes again lol!

Hopefully that was the cause of the problem. Like I explained I did the shake test on the ICV and it failed the shake test, so even if that wasn't the cause of the P1093 the component failed the shake test.

Yeah, hope that fixes it for you, it seems like a bit of a witch hunt to eliminate that code.

Just sort of a disconnect for me that an idle control component would cause an SES at high speed, that would not be the first place I would be looking.

+1 to E46fanatics and Al Gore!

Maybe take a look at your intake boot while you're at it, the last time I was poking around there I noticed it was all cracked. Lots of anecdotes on- line that they like to start cracking at the folds.

Since I needed to remove the intake boot in order to remove the ICV I replaced it.

Here's a video on removing the ICV and doing the shake test and cleaning the ICV.

Its been about three weeks since I replaced the ICV and I have taken the X on several trip lasting more than an hour and at highway speed and the P1093 code hasn't pop up.

I would call this a fix.

Here's my experience with the P1093:

Hi upallnight...

I have the same issue, I already replaced both O2 Front Sensors (Pre Cat) and I also followed your youtube video of cleaning the IDC which when I pulled mine, didn't rattle after the shake test. Cleaned it out and placed it back but the P1093 is still there.

I am confused with your answer above though...you said before this post that you cleaned it...but then you posted above stating your replaced the ICV. So does that mean you bought a new one and replaced the one you cleaned and it finally cleared the code?

Please advise.

Yes, I just replaced the ICV. I cleaned the ICV but decided not to use it. The video of how to clean the ICV is a video that I found on Youtube. I didn't bother to film the cleaning of the ICV.
