No Need to Dis-assemble Bumper to Remove Front Clip?

It appears to me that you do not have to dis-assemble the front of the car to remove the front clip.

Good day all!!

Thanks for this!! I will try it this way the next motor I need to pull!! My only concern is getting the compressor out of the way without breaking the system or evac'ing the refrigerant!!

Cheers all!!

Reviving the thread. I spent a year in China and that put this little project on hold.

The first thing I did was try to get the bolt out of the crank shaft (holding the vibe damper hub on). I bought the tool that bolts on the the hub to hold the crankshaft in place. However, after cracking a hex 27mm socket I set out to find sterner stuff (3/4" drive socket kit) at a local store but to no avail. Amazon and Ebay to the rescue, I found a very stout 3/4" 27mm socket and a 24" breaker bar for it. After putting a 4x4 support under the socket I got a step ladder out and bounced on the breaker bar with one foot, after about 5 minutes I felt a slight movement and after about half a turn the bolt was easy to turn.

Now I am still working on a fix for my e70 but next week I hope to get some quality time in and remove the covers.

With a bit of luck this project will be completed before next summer when I expect offspring number two to get a driving license.....

I'm in the process of doing this now on a 4.6is because I'm parting it out and removed the whole front clip but can't seem to separate it from the transmission.

Axles are off, all bolts from the bell housing is off, the bolts to the torque converter/flex off, and TC shaft is off.

Tried prying but didn't try to hard fear of breaking something.

Any idea what else is holding the transmission to the block?

mr robot,

Normally quite easy to separate, but there are some hidden bolts. You may have one still holding you back.

Does the starter have to be removed as well?

Edited: Confirmed, the bolts for the starter also go through the bell housing. That means they have to come out as well.
