It's about a month now since I got my Water pump and Thermostat replaced. I still randomly hear the fan (radiator fan I'm guessing) go on full speed every now and then. Is this normal? Is there something else that I should be checking?

I'm worried because this was the same symptom that I had before it overheated.

Thanks!

My car does the same, I guess it's normal, I monitor the coolant temperature will driving and it stays in range.

IF it breaks down again, I hope it happens before the warranty ends! I really dislike the lack of temperature gauge on these cars!!

Hey Neil, How do you monitor your coolant temp? I am kind of put off that I can't do that on my 3.0 e70.

I run one of these often and can set threshold alarms - UltraGauge OBDII Scan tool & Information Center

Pony up for a more integrated and built in option - P3 Cars - Vent Integrated Digital Interface - Why settle for just a boost gauge?

Or go cheap with an OBDII smart phone App. OBDFusion for either Android or iProducts is less than $10. With a wireless OBDII interface you are adding between another $10-$20 depending on the platform.

Android requires an OBDII to Bluetooth interface.

iProducts require an OBDII to Wifi interface.

Just search Amazon for ELM327 and make sure you get the proper interface for your device, Bluetooth or Wifi.

Thanks jfoj, Those P3 interfaces look way cool. I will definitely research those, dang it another project. :) When will it end....

Might want to check if the P3 interface offers user selectable threshold alarms, it may, but not 100% sure.

I also run a cooler thermostat in my 4.8l because the coolant temp would typically run in the 215-225F range which is concerning. Not sure what the other engine temp ranges are.
