E70 hub adapter
 

What I'm trying to do is run "regular" BMW wheels (72.6mm hub diameter) on my E70 which has a hub diameter of 74.1mm
Has anyone tried it? I'm asking because there are tons of good wheel/tires 'regular' setups for sale on Craigslist but very few for E70.
Can anyone recommend a good set of adapters too? Thanks

I do not run your setup but do run adapters on the back (20mm).

What ever you get make sure you get hubcentric.

yes as long as you get adapters you should be OK. I personally like the aluminum ones over the plastic but I am told both work fine.

Plastic? Sounds scary.
I'll order two sets (about $200) form ECS. Now I need to decide which wheels to buy.

Be aware that many normal BMW wheels are not rated for a vehicle as heavy as an x5.I run adapters on the rear of my e70 for running x5m wheels.
They were custom made to my specified width I think they were like $130 a pair from a company in Las Vegas.
They don't make plastic hub adapters I believe that poster is talking about hub rings not adapters.

I'm still trying to understand how a wheel with a 76.2mm hub opening is going to fit on a 74.1mm hub. Are the adapters just spacers with a smaller hub bore? If so, would longer wheel studs be needed?

Yea that's exactly what they are. They typically bolt to the hub and then you use the oem lugs to bolt the wheel to the spacer

I've had bad experiences with spacers... nasty steering wheel wobble at freeway speeds. These were nice machined units from Turner Motorsports too!

I've never had issues with spacers on my M5. I've used 3, 5 and now 12mm in front. As mentioned above, not all wheels are rated for the X5. All my vehicles have 74.1mm hubs and whenever I've needed to, I've had a machine shop bore the hub opening out. Last time it was $200 for all four.

Dang, didn't think about the weight. I see a lot of wheels for the 7 series and imagine those are fine, as the 7 seems to be as heavy as the X5
